ASSISTANT DIRECTOR
ABOUT US:
Nina Johnson is a contemporary art space in Miami, Florida. Since 2007, the gallery has produced exhibitions by emerging and established artists from around the world. The gallery works alongside artists to produce ambitious projects both within the confines of the gallery space and beyond.
POSITION SUMMARY:
ASSISTANT DIRECTOR:
Reporting to the Director and Senior Director, the Assistant Director provides support on artist relationships, client relationships, events, and marketing activities. The Assistant Director manages the Gallery Assistant in ensuring the smooth production of all digital materials of the gallery, including but not limited to producing the gallery catalogs, images, social media, Dropbox, etc. The Assistant Director provides support to the Exhibitions Manager. The Assistant Director serves as a ‘brand ambassador’ for the gallery, generally overseeing and implementing gallery operations, both outward and inward facing, to ensure a seamless implementation of the gallery mission and strategic plan.
Responsibilities Include:
Artist Relationships:
• Works with senior gallery staff to develop curatorial relationships to secure museum exhibitions and acquisitions for artists we represent.
• Documents professional and personal details for gallery artists to create a full picture of the artist. Artist files should be consistent and up-to-date. Personal details would include travel preferences, birthdays, gifts, identity pronouns, etc.
• Informs the staff of major milestones for gallery artists (museum exhibitions, publications, awards, press coverage, etc.).
• Visible at art fairs, gallery and museum openings, studios and social events to represent the gallery. This may include travel to other locations where the artist may be exhibiting at an art fair, institution or gallery.
• Ensures regular updates on artist files on the directory; sections on the website; books, press, images, etc.
• Works closely with Exhibitions Manager to schedule the exhibitions calendar and ensure all timelines and requirements are communicated to artists in a timely manner.
• Manages artist proposals for public commissions and acquisitions and ensures their fulfilment throughout.
Marketing:
• Develops the gallery’s annual marketing budget and periodically reassess where marketing efforts are being allocated so as to keep costs low and maximize value.
• Assists with the delivery of comprehensive marketing and communications plan to drive brand awareness, drive traffic to the website and gallery locations, and build loyal client relationships.
• Coordinates the timely creation and distribution of press releases.
• Continually cultivates relationships with international and regional journalists who cover arts and culture.
• Oversees the production and the timely design of gallery marketing and press materials (print and digital).
• Works closely with Gallery Assistant to generate and schedule social media content relating to local and national exhibitions, art fairs and artist projects.
• Ensures brand strategy and language remain consistent throughout the various communication channels (i.e. website, packets, social media, press).
• Organizes and delivers gallery events. This might involve sourcing venues, catering and security, issuing invites, as well as generating and managing guest lists.
Sales and Client Service:
• Actively cultivates relationships with clients and prospects.
• Oversees and secures corporate client projects and large scale commercial commissions.
• Available for on-site visits, group tours and client support.
• Handles client calls and visits
• Sets and delivers an annual sales target.

Requirements:
• BA preferred.
2 years of experience in a gallery or other luxury/retail environment.
Computer skills: Adobe Suite including InDesign, Photoshop, Adobe, Dropbox, MS Office suite and Arternal.
• Must be available for gallery installations, openings and other events as needed, which may take place over weekends or fall outside normal gallery hours and may include travel.
