This is a full-time, exempt position with a salary range of $80,000 to $90,000, commensurate with experience. PMP offers excellent benefits, including health and dental insurance and participation in a 403(b) retirement plan.

Description

Position Summary

The Perlman Music Program seeks a full-time Assistant Director of Development to join our five-person Development team. This vital team member will oversee the day-to-day operations of the Development office, manage the full cycle of institutional funding (including grants and reporting), and lead PMP’s annual fund strategy and execution. This role works closely with the Director of Development to support a comprehensive fundraising program, including major gifts, capital campaign support, planned giving, and donor stewardship.


Key Responsibilities

Annual Fund & Donor Engagement

  • Lead and implement a dynamic annual fund strategy, integrating direct mail, email, and digital campaigns to maximize fundraising impact.
  • Write compelling appeals, donor communications, and acknowledgment letters in partnership with the Development Associate to engage and inspire donors.
  • Create and lead a comprehensive annual stewardship plan, including personalized donor communications and engagement events to foster meaningful and lasting relationships.
  • Analyze donor data and campaign performance to refine strategies and grow support.


Grants & Institutional Support

  • Research, write, and submit grant proposals to foundations and government agencies.
  • Manage a calendar of deadlines to ensure timely submission of applications and reports.
  • Prepare clear, accurate, and compelling narrative and financial reports for institutional funders.
  • Maintain detailed records of grant activity and communication.


Departmental Operations & Reporting

  • Oversee daily operations of the development office to ensure smooth workflow, donor database accuracy, and timely donor communications.
  • Maintain fundraising reports and dashboards; prepare quarterly and annual progress reports; assist with board reporting and provide weekly gift updates to leadership.
  • Assist with prospect research and support the development of strategies for donor cultivation and solicitation.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Development on strategic planning and campaign efforts, including research and administrative support for PMP’s capital campaign.
  • Supervise the Development Associate. 


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in nonprofit development, with demonstrated success in annual fund management and grant writing.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and project management skills.
  • Fluency in CRM databases (e.g., Bloomerang, Raiser's Edge), with the ability to manage data, generate reports, and optimize systems to support fundraising efforts.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines independently.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented with strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Comfortable working independently and collaboratively as part of a small team.


Additional Requirements

  • Regular travel to PMP’s Shelter Island campus is expected between May and October.
  • This role requires evening and weekend work during events and other key moments throughout the year.
  • Occasional travel may be required throughout the year.
