BlackBook Art Gallery (BlackBook) is a global arts and culture brand — art gallery, publisher, media company — located in NYC and the Hamptons. Founded in 1996, Soho, New York City, the brand is internationally recognized for the arts periodical, BlackBook Magazine, known for its award winning content and for its work with emerging and prestigious artists, writers, authors, brands, and institutions. The position we’re seeking is a gallery manager and sales lead for our gallery location in the Hamptons (Southampton, NY). Prior sales experience and collector contacts are heavily preferred.
Role Description
The Gallery Manager / Sales Lead is a part-time or full-time (depending on the candidate/mutual preferences), public-facing, hybrid role based in Southampton, NY. The role includes working with the founder on all aspects of the business, geared toward sales and gallery management, including: day-to-day internal admin and public-facing oversight of the gallery, networking and communicating with clients, research, exhibition operations, and sales. The position can be part-time or full-time, depending on fit, experience, and mutual preferences.
Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in Art History, Arts Administration, Fine Arts, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience in the arts sector.
· Ability to work on-site in Southampton, NY, with flexibility for evenings or weekends during events and exhibitions. Ideal candidate has own lodging arrangements in the Hamptons and connections in the Hamptons art market.
· Strong client service and relationship-building skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with collectors, partners, artists, and vendors. The ideal candidate is personable, professional, and approachable.
· Proven ability to communicate effectively with collectors and sell artwork, as well as the ability to generate new sales leads and expand the gallery's client network
· Experience managing gallery or arts-related operations, including exhibition scheduling, artwork handling, and inventory tracking.
· Proficiency with basic business tools (e.g., email, spreadsheets, database or inventory software); familiarity with gallery management systems is a plus (Artlogic, Artnet auction database).
· Comfort with marketing and communications tasks, such as updating websites or social channels, creating basic promotional materials, and supporting event promotion.
