Description

Position: Communications Assistant (PT)

Hours: 15-20 hours/week (approx 2-3 days/week) 

Rate: $25/hour

Location: New York, NY; will also consider applicants in Los Angeles, CA (position can be mostly remote with periodic in-person training, meetings and events)

This by That is an agency representing progressive architects. We offer public relations, communications, and tailored business development services to architects and architecture-related projects, with an eye towards helping independent practices identify and connect with the right partners and opportunities. We also match those seeking to build new environments or transform existing ones with architects who share their unique vision. 


We are particularly committed to supporting practices that expansively address housing and sustainability, and specialize in working with those designing spaces for arts and culture. We are dedicated to bringing architecture to broader audiences through the development of unique projects and programming that demonstrate the criticality of architecture to a healthy, equitable, and joyous future.


The Communications Assistant will work directly with the agency’s principals to support administrative, marketing, and client services functions of the agency. Responsibilities may include: 


PR Client Administration:


  • Maintain digital press kits
  • Lay out and distribute occasional press releases 
  • Track client press hits
  • Track awards opportunities and compile into monthly email for clients
  • Light email correspondence to assist with press requests and pitching
  • Monitor architecture & design media, and broader media spheres, for relevant insights
  • Attendance and note-taking at once-weekly team meetings
  • Keep client agendas and project trackers up to date


Marketing:


  • Maintain mailing lists
  • Work with graphic designer to keep press section of website up to date
  • Assist principals with outlining and drafting bimonthly newsletters
  • Occasional event support, including invitation distribution, RSVP collection, liaising with vendors, on-site support 


Social Media:


  • Draft and schedule Instagram grid posts (to post once or twice weekly, using existing text and assets)
  • Post client press to Instagram stories
  • Draft and post periodic Linkedin updates
  • Make the occasional Instagram Reel
