Based in Detroit and working internationally, ABOVE THE FOLD is seeking a full-time Press Officer to lead public relations for the agency’s roster which includes firms and projects on six continents. This position is 100% remote and open to any qualified candidate.
Working in an agency setting, this position is not a corporate communications role. Focusing outward, applicants should be internationally-minded with an interest in global affairs, architecture & design trends, multidisciplinary projects & collaborations, and elevating the profiles and practices of the agency’s roster.
Proactively identifying, pitching, coordinating, and securing placements across local, regional, national, and/or international media (articles, books, awards, speaking engagements, publications, etc.) is the primary and essential part of the role.
The Press Officer will also oversee updating the agency’s annual media list and communicate with the agency’s roster on a regular basis to advance placements in an efficient, results-oriented manner.
The ideal candidate is self-motivated; has a talent for writing accurately and factually; can quickly absorb information and proactively respond to it; has excellent organizational and time management skills; and enjoys working in a fast-paced environment with smart clients in international time zones.
External - Develop, Manage and Execute Global PR Campaigns
Internal - Promote ABOVE THE FOLD’s Roster and Work
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree, a minimum of three (3) years experience working at an agency, gallery, and/or architecture/design firm in a similar role, and proficiency with macOS, Adobe, and Microsoft. Familiarity with social media and other platforms is preferred. Fluency in English is required; Fluency in Spanish and/or Arabic is preferred.

Develop, manage and execute ongoing, time-sensitive PR strategies for multiple firms/projects
Read and absorb news/media lists on an ongoing basis to identify coverage trends/topics and opportunities for pitches/stories
Maintain and develop excellent knowledge of key media outlets
Contact and correspond with media in architecture, art, business, culture, design, lifestyle, news, real estate, sports, technology, and other disciplines/industries
Collaborate on preparing digital press kits and/or support materials, including press releases, client/project presentations and other needs
Internal - Promote ABOVE THE FOLD’s Roster and Work
Media List: Update with new opportunities and dates
Contacts: Update the firm’s contact database with new PR contacts
Newsletter: Collaborate on preparing and sending newsletters highlighting placements and milestones
Social Media: Collaborate on preparing and uploading updates to Instagram and LinkedIn accounts (@abovethefoldintl)
