About:
Sandy Smith Studio is a fine art fabrication studio based in Bushwick, Brooklyn. Established in 2013, we make sculptures, installations, and bespoke framing/display solutions for artists, galleries, and museums. We work in a wide variety of media, including wood, metals, and plastics. Working directly with artists and institutions, we see projects through from initial concept to finished installation.
Who we are looking for:
We are looking for a skilled freelancer with substantial experience in acrylic fabrication at a medium to large scale. The work involves preparing and gluing up clear acrylic forms accurately and cleanly for a specific project this summer.
You will work as part of a team in our 4500 sq ft studio and be responsible for the acrylic elements of a complex sculpture we are fabricating for a high-profile artist. The expected duration of the role is 2 weeks, but is likely to lead to future collaborations as we frequently make work with acrylic.
Our ideal candidate would have several years of experience in shops and working with acrylic and be comfortable cutting, polishing, and gluing acrylic cleanly.
Attention to detail, a strong work ethic, and keen focus are all important qualities in what we do. Knowledge of and interest in working in contemporary art are a plus.
Where:
You’ll be working from our studio in Bushwick, Brooklyn.
Our hours are 9-5, Monday-Friday.
Pay:
This project will be paid at $35/hour, or commensurate with experience.
Application process:
Please provide cover letter & resume to [email protected]. Please provide specifics about your experience with the skills listed above as applicable, including examples if possible.
We are hoping to hold interviews ASAP and begin work Monday, July 21st.
