PERSONAL ASSISTANT sought for an art critic and philanthropist in Jersey City, NJ who is starting a residency program there for visual artists visiting the region. At this time much focus is on setting up the foundation, putting policies into practice, and liaising with architects and builders. Once established, the job will grow with the foundation or a new administrator will come on board. As COLLECTION REGISTRAR the applicant for the present position will help catalogue a growing art collection, dealing with framers, conservators, artists and galleries, and will work on library and bibliography maintenance, website archiving, and general and personal admin.
While the collection catalogue uses Artsystems, a subscription software with its own help department, the personal assistant will have to be confident and experienced in general computing in areas such as website maintenance, spreadsheets, word processing, social media, mail services, and image processing. They will also have to cultivate patience in tutoring their employer in some of these skills.
It will be an advantage to have some sensitivity towards art objects in terms of conservation, framing and hanging although an art handler per se is not being sought.
