FRAMER
POSITION
The New York Academy of Art seeks a framer that supports daily operations of its Frame Shop, which is part of the Exhibitions Department. The successful individual in this position is expected to be a team player that wants to gain some familiarity with framing. The position is part-time temporary to start immediately and continue through November 2025, and it requires 2-3 days per week (to occur sometime during the hours Monday through Friday, 10am-6pm). This position reports to the Director of Exhibitions and the Frame Shop Manager.
HISTORY
The New York Academy of Art was founded in 1982 by artists, scholars, and patrons of the arts, including Andy Warhol, to foster a resurgence in the training of figurative and representational art. The Academy has since developed into a 501 (c)(3) non-profit cultural institution housing the nation’s first graduate school of figurative art, a continuing education program, the region’s most in-depth figurative art library, an extensive exhibition and lecture series, and iconic New York City events such as Artists for Artists and Tribeca Ball.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Support the Frame Shop by helping frame 200 works leading up to the Academy’s annual fall benefit auction Artists for Artists
• Work the event night of Artists for Artists which will be at an offsite venue in October or November 2025
REQUIREMENTS
• At least 1 year of experience in a similar role working for a frame shop, gallery, museum or similar arts institution
• Knowledge in hinging artworks, cutting 4/8 ply mats, glass, and small frame repairs (i.e. wood filler and touch up paint)
• Familiarity with the use of power tools, hand tools, mat cutter, and other necessary frame shop equipment
• Must be comfortable handling artwork safely including large and sometimes heavy artworks (50 lbs)
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across teams
• Adaptable and able to work in a fast-paced, detail-oriented environment
• Efficient problem solving and time management abilities
