Lesley Dill Studio is accepting applications for 2025 Summer Internships. We are particularly looking for interns with hand sewing skills. Our focus right now is sewing together a large copper foil and paper piece using fine copper wire.
This is an unpaid internship, and we will provide any necessary documentation for course credit. The home-studio is located in Brooklyn Heights/Downtown Brooklyn.
The studio team workdays are Wednesday-Friday 10am-5pm.
2-3 days per week, with a three month commitment starting in June, with possibility to stay on longer.
This is an opportunity to get hands-on experience working in an artist’s studio and connecting with a small team of artists and students from different disciplines.
We are creating a body of work based on an investigation of self-taught artists and 1900’s quackery science. We are sewing together cut copper foil figures with wire, cutting paper and copper with an x-acto blade, and stenciling and painting poetry on paper for an upcoming, deadline-driven, large-scale installation.
We are looking for upbeat, calm interns interested in learning more about studio art fabrication. This is a collaborative studio where we make decisions and develop techniques together. Sewing skills are essential and ideally we are looking for people with an interest and skills in x-acto blade cutting, painting, weaving, and studio art in general. The ideal candidate works well with their hands and is prepared to work independently and with others on complex studio projects.
We are a teaching studio. We offer daily lunchtime talks or films, and give you the opportunity to give a presentation about your work and ideas. Lesley and Liz (Studio Manager) will talk to you about archiving, care of materials, studio organization, and the process of preparation for a multi-level project.
Interns will gain experience in the following skills and processes:
- Fabrication - sewing, x-acto blade cutting, painting, creating paper substrates, metalwork and patina, drafting and planning, experimenting with mixed media.
- How to develop an idea into a finished body of work.
- Administrative skills for working with galleries, museums, and curators.
- Support and advice for your personal practice from both Lesley and Liz.
To apply, please email a cover letter, resume, and examples of your work to [email protected], with subject line: “Summer Internship 2025”. Eligible candidates will be contacted to schedule an interview either online or in-person in the Brooklyn studio.
