Maryland Hall was founded in 1979 by a group of artistic visionaries who believed the former Annapolis High School could best be utilized as a community arts center. About the role:

The Director of Development is a strategic, dynamic, and creative leader responsible for developing, leading, and expanding Maryland Hall's fundraising and development functions while strengthening and diversifying funding. Reporting to the Executive Director, this role designs, implements, and manages comprehensive development strategies to ensure sustainable growth and financial stability. The Director of Development implements and oversees multi-level development plans encompassing major donors, corporate and business sponsorships, special events, foundation giving, endowment fund, and direct mail/appeal campaigns. This role cultivates donor relationships, identifies new funding opportunities, and diversifies revenue streams to strengthen Maryland Hall's impact. The Director of Development also leads a small team currently comprised of a Grant/Development Coordinator and Volunteer Manager. Our ideal candidate is a visionary leader with exceptional relationship building skills who has a proven track record of success in non-profit fundraising and a passion for the arts and education. This role is a full-time, in-office role that is eligible for telework one day per week.


What you’ll be doing:


Fundraising:

● Provide strategic leadership to the development team, ensuring the successful fundraising necessary to support Maryland Hall’s mission.

● Identify, cultivate, and steward relationships with individual donors, major givers, corporate and business sponsors, foundations partners, and other stakeholders.

● Heavily collaborate with the Executive Director, leadership team, and Board of Directors to strengthen existing donor relationships and expand support.

● Continually develop and implement innovative strategies to secure new funding sources and untapped partnerships.

● Oversee the planning and execution of annual and special appeals (digital and print) to grow the organization’s individual giving base.

● Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of fundraising events, including Maryland Hall’s signature gala, Arts Alive.

● Oversee donor acknowledgments, ensuring meaningful recognition through well-crafted communications and stewardship efforts.

● Lead all aspects of the organization's Capital Campaign fundraising initiatives.

● Lead the creation and distribution of the annual Year in Review to communicate Maryland Hall’s impact to supporters, funders, grantors, and stakeholders.

● Develop compelling fundraising materials and communications to engage donors and inspire philanthropic support.


Administration:

● Oversee the receipt, acknowledgment, and tracking of all donor contributions, pledges, corporate sponsorships, and in-kind donations to ensure accuracy and timely stewardship.

● Maintain and manage up-to-date mailing lists, donor databases, and donor profiles to support strategic outreach and engagement.

● Analyze fundraising data, generate reports, and provide insights to inform development strategies and decision-making.

● Develop and manage the Development Team's annual budget, ensuring resources are allocated effectively to meet fundraising goals.

● Perform additional duties as assigned by the Executive Director to support Maryland Hall’s mission and growth.


Team Leadership:

● Supervise the Development Coordinator, providing guidance on grant research, proposal writing, and compliance activities to maximize funding opportunities.

● Supervise the Volunteer Manager, supporting efforts to recruit, engage, nurture, and recognize volunteers, interns, and apprentices.


What you bring:

● 5+ years of relevant experience in fundraising/development and special events coordination, preferably for a non-profit or arts organization

● 3+ years of experience managing, mentoring, and supporting a small team

● 2+ years of experience utilizing a donor management system to record donor data, run reports, outline trends, and track opportunities

● A proven track record of personal success in meeting and exceeding fundraising goals

● Demonstrated experience creating, implementing, and leading fundraising/development strategies, standards, and best practices

● Exceptional project management, organization, prioritization, and delegation skills, including demonstrated experience successfully balancing and managing multiple simultaneous development initiatives

● Strong written and oral communication skills

● Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a commitment to our mission


Salary & Benefits

The salary range for this full-time, exempt role is $80,000 to $90,000 annually. Maryland Hall offers a generous benefits package, including vacation and sick leave, 20 paid holidays, health, dental, and vision insurance, dependent health insurance coverage, a 401(k) with employer match and immediate vesting, a Health Savings Account (HSA), life insurance, and professional development assistance.
