Description

Hauser & Wirth is one of the leading international galleries for contemporary art with locations in Hong Kong, London, Los Angeles, New York, Menorca, Somerset, St. Moritz and Zurich. Based in New York, we are seeking an experienced full-time Artist Liaison.

 

The Artist Liaison plays a critical role in managing artist relationships and facilitating exhibitions, production, and legacy planning. This role requires exceptional communication skills, diplomacy, and the ability to proactively solve problems in a fast-paced environment. The Artist Liaison will work closely with one to two high-profile artists and be responsible for supporting all aspects of their engagement with the gallery and the broader art world.

 

Key Responsibilities


Artist and Estate Management

  • Manage and support allocated artists and estates in collaboration with the Sales Director.
  • Act as the main liaison between the artist/studio and the gallery, as well as external partners including institutions, curators, and other galleries.
  • Coordinate and manage all artist-related matters including:
  • Internal and external exhibitions (physical and digital)
  • Publications and press
  • Research and logistics
  • Commissions and consignments
  • Organize and attend studio visits, production meetings, and conference calls.
  • Support external exhibitions (e.g., loans, institutional contracts, site visits).
  • Advise on external programs, legacy planning, and production strategy.


Project and Production Oversight

  • Travel for exhibitions, installations, and opening events.
  • Coordinate AV/technical equipment needs for artists using tech-based media.
  • Oversee sculpture production involving mechanical or robotic elements, including casting processes.
  • Develop and monitor production budgets and timelines.


Documentation and Archives

  • Oversee content for artist biographies, bibliographies, press materials, advertisements, sales books, invitations, and catalogues.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date database entries on artworks, literature, and exhibitions.
  • Manage digital and physical archives in collaboration with the Marketing and Communications team.


Administrative & Operational Support

  • Ensure all artist-related documentation is accurate and professionally presented.
  • Oversee cost control processes for exhibitions and special projects.
  • Coordinate logistics for commissions and consignments.
  • Complete additional tasks as assigned.


Requirements

  • BA or MA in Art History or a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a similar role at a gallery or art institution.
  • In-depth experience with artist relations and supporting tech/AV-based artists.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and high attention to detail.
  • Capable of working independently and collaboratively with local and remote teams.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
  • Fluent in English (spoken and written); additional languages are a plus.
  • Proficient in Mac OS X, Microsoft Office, and Google Workspace; willingness to learn new software tools.
