A contemporary art gallery in Chelsea seeks a Registrar to oversee key aspects of the gallery’s logistics. The ideal candidate will have 3+ years of experience in a fine art gallery or similar work environment. Candidate must be detail oriented, highly organized, and capable of multitasking in a fast-paced environment.
The position works in close collaboration with another registrar and a team of art handlers who are also involved in production and operations. The position also collaborates with our sales and finance teams.
Responsibilities for the Registrar include, but are not limited to:
-Manage all post-sale shipping in close collaboration with Directors and our finance team and file shipping paperwork.
-Contribute to the organization and maintenance of the gallery database and server. This includes collaborating with the gallery’s other Registrar to create new artwork records, maintain accurate cataloging information, track locations, and generate release/receive paperwork for incoming and outgoing shipments.
-Arrange shipments for gallery exhibitions for select artists, including several international studios.
-Arrange local transportation for the gallery’s internal shipments in collaboration with the gallery’s other Registrar and team of technicians. This includes helping to organize weekly storage shuttles.
-Advise on proper packing, care, maintenance, and installation for artworks.
-Generate condition reports in collaboration with team of art handlers
-Send out Certificates of Authenticity to clients and file appropriate paperwork with shipping documents.
Qualifications:
-Good communication skills are essential, as this position interacts with gallery artists, museums, collectors and other vendors.
-This role requires prior experience organizing domestic and international shipments, including knowledge of related tax / VAT implications and protocols.
-Experience with ArtBase preferred.
Salary is commensurate with experience and includes healthcare benefits and paid vacation time. This position works Tuesday - Saturday from 10am - 6pm.
