Aicon Contemporary is offering $16 per hour for this role. We are looking for someone to commit three days per week initially, with a likelihood of turning into a full time position. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday 10 am - 6 pm. This is a part time position leading to a full time position.
Description
As an Art Handler / Registrar Intern, you will work on various aspects of art logistics, installation, and exhibition preparation.
Your responsibilities may include:
- Safe handling, packing, unpacking, and transportation of artworks.
- Participating in the installation and deinstallation of exhibitions, ensuring proper handling and positioning of artworks.
- Collaborating with the team to prepare artworks for display, including stretching and unstretching canvases, framing using ready made frames, mounting, labeling, and lighting adjustments.
- Conducting condition assessments and documenting any damages or issues with artworks.
- Inventory management of artworks, including cataloging and database entry.
- Assisting with the maintenance and organization of art storage areas.
- Art shipping logistics, including coordinating with couriers and shipping providers.
- Adhering to established protocols and safety procedures to ensure the protection and preservation of artworks.
Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Art History, Fine Arts, Museum Studies, or a related field.
- Passion for art and a desire to gain hands-on experience in art handling and gallery operations.
- Detail-oriented with excellent ability to handle delicate and valuable artworks with care.
- Physical stamina and the ability to lift, carry, and move artwork.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of art handling best practices and safety protocols is a plus.
- Proficiency in using basic tools and equipment used in art handling, such as hammers, screwdrivers, and measuring devices.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Availability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, based on the needs of the gallery calendar/schedule.
