Music Director Stop Shopping Choir

The Stop Shopping Choir is seeking a Music Director:

The Stop Shopping Choir is a NYC based, 25-35 voice SATB, community choir.  We seek a dynamic musical leader who has experience being in choirs, leading choirs and or working with groups of singers. Church experience is helpful, but not necessary.  This person must be able to teach by ear and with charts, and must be able to work with old charts as our repertoire is deep. Arrangement and Composition skills are integral.  We are a piano led choir.

We have a weekly (Sunday Evening) rehearsal or performance in Manhattan.  We are looking for a special person who wants to work with a well established community group and award winning performance body. We want to be musically adventurous but stay grounded in our developed vocal practice, which includes extended improvisation. We are ambitious and rooted in care. We want to expand our influences and dig deeper into our own sound. We are happy to work with someone without a lot of experience if they are excited by the work and have skills.

Responsibilities include: piano accompaniment, vocal exercise, teaching new material, rehearsing old material, developing arrangements & new songs, keeping music updated and performing. 

This person will work closely with the directors of The Church of Stop Shopping and other musician(s) in residence but the primary relationship is with the Stop Shopping Choir.

This is a part time job, approximately 10 hours a week, pay is competitive and negotiable, consistent availability on Sundays is critical (occasional sub out ok too).  All touring and out of town gigs are paid separately. This is a one year contract starting mid-September 2025
