Job Title: Gallery Registrar
Schedule: Full-time, Monday–Friday, 10am–6pm
Bill Hodges Gallery, a Chelsea based gallery specializing in 19th and 20th century museum quality art from artists of the African Diaspora, is seeking a dedicated and highly detail oriented individual for the role of Gallery Registrar. This is a full time, permanent position offering hands-on experience in the inner workings of a secondary market focused gallery.
We are looking for someone who is:
● Skilled in art photography and photo editing
● Proficient in Adobe Photoshop and other Adobe Creative Suite programs (knowledge of InDesign is a plus)
● Comfortable with art handling best practices, including packing and unpacking artworks (able to lift 25 pounds)
● Experienced with making custom artwork-specific boxes and protective packaging
● Extremely organized with excellent attention to detail
● Has a working knowledge of FileMaker Pro, ArtLogic, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word
Primary Responsibilities:
● Photographing gallery artworks and editing images for internal records, website, and promotional use
● Organizing digital image assets and ensuring color accuracy across platforms
● Fulfilling online catalog orders and maintaining publication inventory records (eBay and Amazon)
● Creating and updating artwork records using ArtLogic and FileMaker Pro
● Managing physical filing systems
● Supporting daily operations of the gallery, some of which may not be directly associated with the role
Ideal candidates will have:
● Previous professional art world experience in a gallery, museum, or other art institution
● A strong interest in gallery operations and the art market
● An acute attention to detail, a proactive attitude and a respectful, inclusive mindset aligned with the gallery’s values
