This is a full-time position. The apprentice will assist Community Engagement and Career Services staff with all programs and services that address the needs of students and alumni related to career development and entrepreneurship. The apprentice assists in the communication, marketing, digital content creation, scheduling, and customer service of the Offices of Community Engagement and Career Services.
About the Professional Apprentice Program: This program offers a unique and immersive training opportunity for emerging technicians and administrators in the performing arts. It is widely recognized that practical training programs are essential for aspiring arts professionals to secure sustainable employment in the field. For more than four decades, the program has successfully prepared recent graduates, early-career professionals, and individuals undergoing career transitions for employment in the cultural sector. This is achieved through a combination of hands-on experience, professional development activities, and networking and mentorship opportunities.

About the Office of Community Engagement and Career Services: This office connects students and alumni to professional opportunities and resources through its Fellowship programs, grants programs, online Career Portal, the Hire Juilliard Performers program, and curricular and co-curricular offerings, all of which help college students become communicative and socially responsible artists, learn to serve the cultural needs of their communities, and develop agency in agency in their careers.
Performance series and events: Hire Juilliard Performers (500+ events per year), Community Engagement Fellowships (400+ events per year), public-facing events in education and entrepreneurship (5-10 events per year), guest artist performances and workshops (20-40 events per year)
Fellowship programs (approximately 100-125 Fellowships awarded per year): Gluck Community Service Fellowship (GCSF), Morse Teaching Fellowship, McCabe Guitar Fellowship, Music Advancement Program Fellowship, and Combining Literacy Instruction with Musical Beginnings (CLIMB).
Grant programs: Career Grants, Project Grants, Jakab Global Grants, Entrepreneurship Grants, and post-graduate grants
The salary is $17.39 per hour or a contracted amount of $27,824 for the school year.
Role Responsibilities:
- Create, distribute, and post (physically and digitally) marketing materials and reporting for events presented by the Offices of Community Engagement and Career Services, including print poster materials, social media posts, and video editing of student work produced by the Office’s programs, as well as a biannual report about office programming.
- Assist with and attend all workshops presented by the office through creating and sending promotional materials, facilitating space and food/supply ordering, set-up, and clean-up, and obtaining proper equipment.
- Maintain office files and databases including competition and summer festival files, job notices, grants, and office handbooks and assisting with record keeping so that all program assessment runs smoothly (GradLeaders, Airtable).
- Greet visitors and maintain a professional and welcoming environment in a busy reception area with a high volume of student traffic.
- Give quarterly presentations to Community Engagement and Career Services staff on research projects inspired by the work of this position, with guidance from the Assistant Dean.
- As needed: Provide administrative support in observing cross-departmental meetings, grant panels, and Community Engagement coaching sessions, Fellowship interviews, and performance observations.
- As needed: Provide administrative support for the Hire Juilliard Performers (HJP) program. Duties related to this program include fielding and responding to client inquiries via the phone and email, creating and maintaining promotional material, maintaining client management software (Airtable and GradLeaders), assisting with contracts, maintaining contact records, updating task management databases to reflect the status of inquiries and bookings, and creating invoices and processing payments.
Minimum Requirements:
All apprentices will need basic knowledge of the craft they intend to pursue. As such, we are asking for any of the following training: Bachelor’s Degree towards related field; Related professional experience or transferable skills; A combination of educational, professional experience, or transferable skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, customer service skills, and an ability to effectively serve as the first point of contact for students, administration, and clients.
- Knowledge of the performing arts (Dance, Drama, and Music)
- Basic familiarity with video and audio editing software.
- Knowledge of and a commitment to social justice in the performing arts and interest in the career employment prospects for graduating students of a performing arts school
- Strong computer skills using software applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Airtable, and GradLeaders.
- Ability to perform multiple tasks quickly, accurately, and under pressure.
- Highly organized, motivated, and strong work ethic.
- Ability to be a strong contributor to a team.
Preferred Background:
- Experience working with jazz and classical musicians, and knowledge of various instruments, ensemble types, and chamber music configurations.
- Experience with or in design, marketing, and/or social media.
- Experience with special events and/or food safety.
- Basic familiarity with video and audio editing software.
- Experience with and knowledge of community-based organizations, (NYC) public schools, and/or school policies and practices.
- Experience and interest in arts administration or non-profit organizations, including higher education institutions.
- Interest in issues facing careers in the performing arts including awareness of job opportunities, requirements, and lifestyles in the performing arts industry.
- Demonstrated commitment to social justice, uplift, and increasing equity through the performing arts and arts education.
