Description

MISSION

New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) is a 501(c)(3) service organization that empowers artists in all disciplines, as well as cultural workers, to achieve success on their own terms by providing critical support, resources, and opportunities. NYFA accomplishes this mission by offering financial and informational assistance to artists and organizations that directly serve artists, by supporting arts programming in the larger community, and by building collaborative relationships with others who advocate for the arts in New York State and throughout the country.

CORE VALUES

NYFA’s leadership is team based. Senior leadership is expected to work with their colleagues both horizontally and vertically in an open, collaborative, and collective culture. Ideas in the organization for any department can come from any level and encouragement is given to such interactions, shared understandings, and transparency. In this light, the Manager of Earned Income will engage those not in fee-based services to be aware of and participate in financial goals as appropriate. NYFA values colleagues who are proactive, eager to co-create and brainstorm ideas, and who offer solutions to challenges, with a willingness to navigate complex situations with diplomacy, patience, and good humor.

THE ORGANIZATION

NYFA was established in 1971 as an independent nonprofit service organization to serve individual artists throughout New York State. Since then, NYFA has extended its comprehensive programs and services throughout the United States. NYFA’s programs and resources are far-reaching and offer different areas of support, including funding opportunities, fiscal sponsorship, online information resources, and entrepreneurial-based direct service programs. Each year, NYFA awards over $4 million in cash grants to arts organizations and individual artists and in all disciplines throughout the United States and its territories. NYFA’s

Fiscal Sponsorship program, one of the oldest and most reputable in the country, helps national artists and arts organizations raise and manage an average of $3 to $4 million annually. NYFA’s Learning programs, including entrepreneur boot camps and mentoring programs, provide thousands of artists and cultural workers with professional development training and support. NYFA’s website, NYFA.org, is used by more than 1 million people and features more than 20,000 opportunities and resources available to artists in all disciplines.

NYFA is at a pivotal moment in its evolution. It has been increasingly expanding its programs beyond New York City and State to serve artists and cultural workers nationally. It also provides some programming in languages other than English to serve a broader community in need. In addition to providing in-person services, NYFA continually uses technology to expand its reach and the quality of its programming. Organizational development goals include securing more contributed income to enlarge grants and awards, increasing earned income to achieve greater independence, hiring additional staff, increasing resources for professional development programs and fiscally sponsored projects, expanding technology infrastructures to enlarge earned income, inclusive representation among donors by type and geography, and establishing short- and long-term strategies for relationship network building. Specifically NYFA is aiming to increase total revenues over the next five years by 25% to 50%.

THE OPPORTUNITY

Reporting to and supporting the CEO, the Manager of Earned Income will be the experienced, focused, and passionate revenue professional with an ambition to reach specific financial goals and to co-lead financial growth as the organization increasingly expands its programming. The Manager of Earned Income will provide the leadership, coordination, and implementation of NYFA’s three earned income programs: Classifieds, Fiscal Sponsorship, and Learning. Each one is led by a senior officer. The Manager of Earned Income will also lead the identification, attraction, and execution of other fee generating opportunities within our current umbrella of programming, and be organizationally supported in developing new revenue streams. Leading and managing a highly productive staff of eight, the Manager of Earned Income will foster and maintain a culture of inter- and intra-departmental collegiality and communication. Building upon already established strong partner relationships with universities, government offices, nonprofits, and corporations, they will implement forward-thinking strategies for each of the programs to meet organizational annual and long-term financial objectives. Greater consideration will be given to those who demonstrate in their cover letter an example of how they would bring greater income to NYFA.
