Freight+Volume is seeking a highly motivated individual to work with our team as an Assistant Director/Gallery Manager. Must have extensive working experience at a contemporary art gallery in NYC. Qualified candidates must be proactive, detail-oriented, deadline-oriented, hard-working, outgoing, organized, articulate, punctual and reliable.
DUTIES
GENERAL
- Assist directors with promotion and sales of all of represented and non-represented artists.
- Oversee online venues such as Artsy, Artspace, Seesaw, and Artland
- Presence at all gallery events, receptions, and art fairs.
- Assist directors with developing new clients and maintain old client relationships.
- Maintain and develop press relationships.
- Manage gallery presence on the internet through website, social media, and other channels.
- Liaise with artists.
- Maintain invoices on desktop and hardcopy.
- Maintain artists' binders and files.
- Maintain bookshelf and record book sales and inventory.
- Secure messages and mail for owner and directors.
- Maintain and order office supplies and equipment.
FINANCIAL
- Artist accounting of all of sales and commissions.
- Maintain Sales tax records for the accountant
- Maintain petty cash log.
- Liaise with outside vendors and review all invoices.
- Oversee accounts payable and receivable.
REGISTRATION AND FACILITIES MAINTENANCE
- Maintain and preserve gallery inventory and database (Gallery Manager).
- Create and maintain consignments for each show and each artist we work with. Both in-house and with other galleries.
- Pack, ship, and troubleshoot logistics for all sales, shipments, and art fairs.
- Preparation of release and intake forms.
- Oversee and occasionally take part in installation and deinstallation for each exhibition including safe packing and storage of work as necessary.
- Maintain an organized and clean gallery, offices, and viewing rooms.
RESIDENCY
- Oversee schedule for gallery's seasonal offsite Residency program.
- Manage seasonal gallery exhibitions and all transportation to and from.
- Occasional travel to Cape Cod may be required.
SKILLS
- Adobe Photoshop, Indesign, Illustrator
- Art handling experience desirable.
- Microsoft Office
- Punctuality, ability to maintain a positive attitude and work independently are essential
- Concise and clear writing and communication skills a must.
10:30am-6:30pm, Tuesday-Saturday and gallery events as needed.
