Uffner & Liu seeks an Associate Director to join our team. This role is full-time, Tuesday through Saturday, from 10:00am to 6:00pm. Schedule flexibility for openings, events, and art fairs is required.
Job Description:
The Associate Director will work closely with the Partners across various workflows, including sales, exhibition & art fair planning, gallery operations, shipping, and inventory management. The ideal candidate will have a commercial gallery background and be self driven and proactive, with a willingness to pick up new skills as needed. A successful Associate Director will play an integral role on a small team and will act both independently and collaboratively, as projects require. The position offers the opportunity for long-term development and growth with the gallery.
Responsibilities:
Sales
- Work closely with the partners to develop and execute a sales strategy to drive private and institutional sales
- Generate sales materials including PDFs, fact sheets, and PrivateViews
- Maintain the gallery’s current client base and develop new relationships
- Greet visitors to the gallery and cultivate walk-in sales
- Represent the gallery at relevant events, striving to build upon and enhance the gallery’s reputation
- Attend art fairs as needed
Registrar
- In tandem with the Partner and Gallery Associate, oversee shipping arrangements of sold works to clients
- Assist with sourcing estimates and arranging shipping for exhibitions and art fairs
Exhibition & Art Fair Planning
- Work closely with gallery artists to prepare materials for exhibitions and art fairs
- Assist with exhibition installation, documentation, and deinstallation
- Contribute written materials for exhibitions including sales offers, fact sheets, and press releases
- Assist with event planning for openings, artist talks, dinners, book launches, etc.
- Assist with art fair applications, booth design, and logistics, both domestic and international
- Provide support for external exhibitions, loans, consignments, publications, etc.
Gallery Operations
- Assist Partner in tracking expenditures related to exhibitions and art fairs
- Provide front of house support to Gallery Associate where required, including day to day welcoming of visitors and at gallery exhibition openings and events
Requirements
- 2-4 years of experience in a commercial gallery in sales or registrar departments
- Bachelor’s degree in art history, visual arts, or a similar field is preferred
- Existing client network is preferred
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, especially in client facing settings
- Organized and detail-oriented with exceptional problem-solving skills
- Capacity to prioritize, multi-task, and work well under pressure
- Experience with Mac Office Software and Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Google Sheets and Photoshop
- Experience with SketchUp and Artlogic preferred
