Anticipate 36 contact hours over a 12 week session to run Sept. 2025- Dec 2025. (one 3 hour evening class session per week). Pay is hourly for 36 hours total. Potential for this class to run multiple times throughout the upcoming year if successful.
Makerspace NYC, New York’s largest and most well equipped maker space seeks an experienced woodworking instructor to teach a multi-week Introduction to Woodworking course. Demonstrated professional woodworking ability and past teaching experience are required. Curriculum will be developed with our in-house woodworking staff, and should include basic use and safety instruction on the table saw, miter saw, jointer, planer, bandsaw, routers, biscuit jointer and drill press. Topics should include understanding basic sheet goods and lumber species, preparing materials cut lists, milling rough lumber, using a table saw crosscut sled, using a dado set and table saw sled for dados and joinery, basic router operations, basic box construction techniques, frame and panel construction techniques, tongue and groove and mortise and tenon construction etc. The goal of this course will be to equip beginner/ intermediate woodworkers with a solid set of basic skills and techniques to draw from so they can begin/continue to realize their own designs in a more well informed manner with an eye towards elevating their level of craftsmanship. Proposed course should include a manageable small final project as well as in-class work samples that students will complete to develop proficiency in these basic skills.
