Description
ABOUT THE ROLE
An East Williamsburg - Brooklyn-based contemporary art studio is seeking a driven, creatively literate associate to manage the full external presence of its artist. This is a part-time contractor role for someone with genuine range: equally comfortable pitching an art publication, writing a collector email, and styling a studio set for filming.
We are looking for someone who moves with initiative and operates independently. Art world literacy and press relationships are a meaningful advantage.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Social & Email
- Develop and execute social content calendars for the studio, adapting tone and cadence to each distinct campaign
- Write and deploy coordinated email campaigns — collection launches, collector updates, studio news
- Draft and manage personalized collector correspondence
- Monitor engagement and grow audience relationships across platforms
Press & PR
- Build and maintain a targeted press and media contact list across art, culture, and lifestyle publications
- Write and send tailored pitches to editors, journalists, and bloggers
- Prepare and maintain press kits, artist bios, and image packages
- Research and submit to open calls, residencies, grant opportunities, and art fairs
- Track outreach, follow up consistently, and report on coverage
- Support gallery relationship management and partnership development
Studio Operations
- Maintain and style the physical studio sets used for filming and documentation
- Assist with in-studio photography and video documentation as needed
- Collaborate directly with the artist to align campaigns with artistic output and release timing
QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience pitching press and building media relationships — arts, culture, or gallery context preferred
- Strong writing across formats: social copy, email campaigns, press pitches, collector correspondence
- Genuine familiarity with the contemporary art world — galleries, publications, fairs, collector culture
- Ability to navigate and maintain multiple distinct artistic narratives without conflation
- Self-directed, organized, and thorough — closes loops without being asked
- Portfolio or work samples demonstrating brand range strongly preferred
