Summary
Reporting to the Head of Marketing, the Digital Content Associate is responsible for supporting the day-to-day management of digital marketing and communications activity, including content initiatives and campaigns, owned channel content (website, social, email, video, etc.) and paid channel content (digital advertising, media, OOH, etc.). Acting as a creative storyteller assisting the promotion of brand visibility and Dia’s exhibitions, programs, and initiatives, this role works closely with all departments at Dia, particularly the Communications, Curatorial, Learning and Engagement, Graphics, Publications, and Visitor Services teams. The Digital Content Associate will collaborate interdepartmentally to create content, assist with requests, and widely implement institutional, integrated marketing strategy across digital channels.

Essential job duties and responsibilities
Content creation and strategy:
- Work with the Head of Marketing to uphold the content calendar and strategy, and develop/execute digital marketing campaigns in collaboration with the Marketing Associate and Graphic Design Assistant
- Work closely with all departments to create engaging and dynamic digital content to be used across all integrated marketing channels—owned or paid
- Coordinate with all cross-functional departments to maintain and support production and creation of digital content marketing operations/project management, including ownership of timelines and deliverables, budget management, coordination with Rights and Reproductions, interview schedules, storyboard planning, graphic creation, and managing contractor relationships
- With guidance from the Head of Marketing, maintain accuracy and the institutional voice according to the in-house style guide across all channels, develop audience engagement, and grow attendance across all sites and programming
- Support the management of content frameworks like Dia Blog (maintain content calendar; work with other departments to produce content) or Artist Playlists (collaborate with other departments to engage with contributors; create and upload playlists to the website and blog)
- Ensure that Dia’s original digital content and all public-facing digital communications reflect our values of diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility
Website and email:
- Assist with the management and creation of website content including copy, images, and multimedia assets through Dia’s content management systems (CMS) and digital asset manager (DAM)
- Ensure the creative quality of webpages by web/copyediting, proofreading, and maintaining consistency, following Dia’s internal house style and image captions in consultation with the Publications department and the strategic quality of webpages with a focus on SEO and optimization, in collaboration with external vendors
- Work in collaboration with the Director of Information Technology and Head of Marketing to execute branding and website architecture updates
- Update and manage changes across site architecture for all events, exhibition pages, photos, captions, job postings, and web popups
- In collaboration with the Head of Marketing, project manage elements of campaigns and events as needed: overseeing the sourcing of archival materials and imagery, liaising with all departments for content and copy, editing said copy and compiling content while acting as Dia’s point person for design studio inquiries and requests
- Create website content for new programs and other ad hoc initiatives as needed
- Maintain email campaign calendar and schedule while creating and implementing strategies to develop and refine email marketing programs
- Coordinate, edit, build, and distribute outbound email campaigns to support programs and initiatives, including monthly e-newsletters and membership and event promotions
- Assist with Development and membership communications, email sends, and event promotion, gala and benefit communications and web updates
- Conduct routine maintenance and cleanup of listserv
Social media:
- Manage the day-to-day operations of social media platforms and content channels (including Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and others); write, edit, and post content across all platforms daily
- In collaboration with the Head of Marketing, ideate, create, and execute innovative reels for promotion of Dia initiatives, including exhibition openings, interviews with curators, etc.
- Promote content through targeted social marketing campaigns to increase audience engagement
- Assist in collaborations and paid campaigns with other galleries, artist estates, and museums to build and promote following
- Maintain awareness of new developments in social media and marketing; make recommendations for new initiatives, digital strategies, campaigns, and platforms
- Serve as Dia’s primary spokesperson for online community management; monitor and respond to comments, public feedback, and inquiries on social media in coordination with the Head of Marketing
- Support Head of Marketing in assessing growth strategies annually, keeping up with the best practices as algorithms evolve
Community management:
- With direction from Head of Marketing, plan, coordinate, and maintain presence on partnership platforms like Bloomberg Connects including:
- Maintenance of updates to museum guide; provide content updates, accessibility, and visitor information
- Manage, design, and create app content, including video walkthroughs and tours
- Monitor content (informational and/or creative) and oversee community management of listings on third-party sites including Tripadvisor, Yelp, Apple Maps, Google Maps, etc.
- Liaise with Visitor Services and other departments to ensure Dia’s locations and sites have accurate information including open hours, directions, and contact information
- Collaborate with artist’s galleries, other institutions, and partners on content creation and cross-promotion in collaboration with Head of Marketing
- Assist in external production/commercial filming/content creation at Dia Beacon and designing campaigns to market these collaborations where appropriate
General responsibilities and duties
- Create quarterly metric reports to track channel strategy success and analytics
- Utilize analytic tools to measure campaign growth and hindsighting
- Collaborate with external consultants on achieving digital marketing and content goals
- Track trends and cultural relevancy to stay abreast of innovation and creativity
- Complete other marketing and communications functions, as assigned
- Provide training for new team members as needed, including but not limited to: CMS platform, email marketing software, Bloomberg Connects, social platforms, and general interdepartmental workflows
Education, certifications, and experience
- BA in related field (marketing, art history, communications, liberal arts) or equivalent experience required
- At least 2 years of experience working in marketing or digital media, preferably at a museum, nonprofit, or contemporary art space
- Experience working with CMS and HTML preferred
Knowledge, skills, and abilities
- An understanding of the principles of content creation, marketing and strategy
- An understanding of the principles of UX design (user-centered)
- Knowledge of best practices for digital content, communications, and social media required
- Experience in video content production preferred
- Proven proficiency in growing social media followings and creating engaging social media content preferred
- Photoshop skills required; InDesign skills preferred
- Proven knowledge of digital analytic tools
- Excellent written, editorial, and communication skills with exceptional attention to detail
- Working knowledge of design terminology, materials, and methods required
- Ability to present oneself professionally, diplomatically, and comfortably with a diverse group of stakeholders
- Strong project management skills and excellent organizational skills
Working conditions and physical demands
- Must be able to work occasional nights and weekends and travel to Dia Beacon as needed
- Prolonged periods of sitting and use of computers and standard office equipment is required to accomplish work objectives
