Painting Assistant

The studio of a globally exhibited contemporary artist is searching for a motivated and detail-oriented painting assistant specializing in realistic acrylic and oil painting for freelance, project-based work over the course of the next 9 months. The ideal candidate has precise technique and attention to detail, the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced studio environment, and a positive and steady demeanor.

Responsibilities: 

● Support the Artist in executing their artistic vision for upcoming project

● Help execute paintings under the guidance of the Artist and studio staff

● Assist in mixing and applying paints, priming canvases, and preparing materials

● Maintain cleanliness and organization of the studio space 

● Support preparation of completed artworks for exhibitions or shipping

● Handle materials with care and ensure proper storage 

● Coordinate ordering of art supplies and painting needs as required 

Qualifications: 

● Background in fine arts or a related field (BFA preferred but not required)

● Strong understanding of painting materials and techniques 

● Attention to detail and high standard of craftsmanship 

● Ability to take direction and work collaboratively 

● Physically able to lift materials and work on large-scale pieces 

● Reliable, punctual, and self-motivated 

Skills: 

● Experience with realistic acrylic and oil painting, including relevant materials, techniques, and processes 

● Knowledge of color theory and surface preparation 

● Basic photography or documentation skills 

● Familiarity with art handling and packing procedures
