Established with the mission of providing access without barriers, Kaufman Music Center proudly programs a comprehensive musical experience for students, performers and audiences in New York and beyond. Merkin Hall, the Center’s intimate performance venue, provides unparalleled access to today’s most compelling artists, workshops, and competitions, offering students, artists and audiences alike the chance to share music at the highest level. Its acclaimed Artist-in-Residence program also gives those performers the resources to develop groundbreaking, multidisciplinary projects as well as educational opportunities to mentor and inspire. Kaufman Music Center continuously cultivates and nurtures new generations of artists through Special Music School, New York’s only K-12 public school prioritizing an intensive, immersive, and musically-focused education without financial barriers, as well as Lucy Moses School, Manhattan’s largest community performing arts school for students of all ages.
We are seeking a part-time Front Desk Receptionist to greet and assist all students, staff, and visitors on weeknights and weekends. The ideal candidate will be passionate about helping people and making connections, have a welcoming and efficient presence in our lobby, and greet visitors and employees with a positive attitude every day. The candidate must be able to relate to many different constituencies, both internal and external; promote a positive work environment; handle room assignments and financial transactions; juggle multiple tasks simultaneously and be a proactive problem solver. The Receptionist is a primary point of contact for all visitors.
Responsibilities:
· Greet students, families, staff, artists, and visitors in a pleasant and professional manner. Direct them appropriately, answer questions, and check IDs when instructed
· Announce visitors to the administration before directing them upstairs
· Reserve space for studio rentals and maintain records for current studio renters
· Handle financial transactions for studio rentals and classes; reconcile daily cash transactions
· Facilitate complaints and direct guests to appropriate administration with a customer-oriented approach
· Communicate with maintenance regarding building needs, setup requirements, etc.
· Answer telephones, direct inquiries, and deliver messages promptly
· Sign for packages and deliveries
· Take initiative to keep busy and assist with clerical tasks when assigned
Requirements:
· Strong customer service and teamwork skills; can relate to both adults and children
· Availability to work weekends and some weekday evenings
· Strong oral and written communication skills
· Responsible and reliable with a welcoming demeanor
· Ability to remain calm and keep composure during difficult conversations
· Ability to multi-task, and thrive in a dynamic environment
· 2+ years’ related or customer service experience required
· Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook and Word
· Prior experience with scheduling software and access control software recommended
· A music or performing arts background is desirable
