Role Overview

We are seeking a Glass Leading Apprentice—a budding craftsman with a steady hand, a discerning eye, and passion for the craft.

This apprenticeship is both a place of learning and a path of mastering. You will work alongside experienced makers and designers, learning the process of transforming raw materials into handcrafted lighting objects and contributing to both production and prototyping. From the precise cutting and taping of glass to the careful preparation of pieces for soldering, you will play a vital role in shaping the foundation of our creations to help ensure each piece reflects both structural integrity and aesthetic intention.

The role is designed for those who believe that craft is a discipline and a dedication. It is for those who see value in repetition as refinement, and in the quiet dialogue between hand and material. You’ll contribute meaningfully to the studio while developing a skill set that anchors future mastery.

The Glass Leading Apprenticeship is a 1-Month Intensive focused on assessing both fit and skill, with the intent to transition to a full time role in our Glass Department at the end of the program.

Responsibilities

  • Shadow closely with artisans and designers to learn and support the execution of key production techniques.
  • Learn to cut and prepare glass components with precision, ensuring accurate fit and clean lines.
  • Tape glass pieces using the copper foil method, maintaining careful alignment and clean edgework.
  • Assist in structural preparation and leading, ensuring joints are smooth and surfaces are ready for leading.
  • Maintain a workspace rooted in order, focus, and respect for process.
  • Embody the values of craftsmanship, discipline, and integrity in daily work.

Qualifications

  • Strong manual dexterity and refined eye-hand coordination.
  • Ability to read and interpret templates, sketches, or technical drawings.
  • A quiet attentiveness to process and an openness to learning through repetition and observation.
  • A keen eye for detail - ability to carefully execute with a high level of precision and a commitment to maintaining consistency across pieces
  • Experience working with glass, hand tools, and small materials in a production environment, a plus

This apprenticeship is designed to support and nurture a path towards the next steps to an industry of craft. One where the relationship between hand and material is honored, where technique becomes expression, and where growth is measured not just in skill, but in sensibility.

We seek individuals who hold reverence for craft, and who wish to grow quickly within a studio that values depth over trend and quality over convenience.

Necessary Work Material

Please attach your resume, a note of interest, and a portfolio showcasing relevant work in glass or hand craft work that reflects your eye and hand.
