This is a senior leadership role requiring deep market knowledge, existing client relationships, and the ability to represent the gallery at the highest levels.

Responsibilities

Sales, Client Development, and Institutional Outreach

  • Build and steward relationships with a global network of private collectors, advisors, and institutions, with an emphasis on proactive outreach and long-term cultivation
  • Lead all aspects of the gallery's sales program, from initial client engagement through placement and post-sale follow-up
  • Develop and execute targeted acquisition and placement strategies for primary and secondary market works
  • Cultivate relationships with curators, directors, and acquisitions committees at museums and public institutions domestically and internationally
  • Identify and pursue strategic placement opportunities for gallery artists, with an eye toward long-term collection and critical positioning
  • Conduct secondary market and valuation research to advise clients and support consignment decisions
  • Oversee the Sales team in maintaining client records in Artlogic, ensuring meticulous tracking of collection activity, fair attendance, artwork interest, and relationship history
  • Direct the preparation of presentations, PDF proposals, catalogue mailings, and bespoke research materials for sales outreach
  • Manage post-sale communications and coordinate with the registrars and junior staff to ensure smooth delivery of sold works, documents, and client gifts

Art Fairs

  • In partnership with the owner, lead the gallery's art fair program, overseeing booth selection, presentation strategy, artist and work selection, and sales execution
  • Manage pre-fair client and institutional outreach, including VIP previews and targeted contact campaigns
  • Oversee preparation of sales materials, checklists, Artlogic inventory, and Dropbox folders in coordination with the art fair team
  • Represent the gallery on the fair floor, managing booth presence, client meetings, and real-time sales decisions

Artist Liaison

  • Serve as primary gallery liaison for 2+ gallery artists and estates, building close working relationships and serving as a trusted point of contact
  • Coordinate with artists and/or estates on studio visits, inventory intake, exhibition planning, fair presentations, and catalogue projects
  • Oversee the preparation and maintenance of artist fact sheets, including artwork descriptions, provenance, literature, and exhibition history, in collaboration with the research team
  • Collaborate with the media team on artwork photography and the communications team on press materials and public-facing artist content

Leadership & Operations

  • Manage and mentor junior sales staff, providing direction on client management, research, and professional development
  • Partner with the gallery owner and Managing Director on strategic planning, staffing, and business decisions
  • Collaborate across departments—communications, registration, art fairs, and exhibitions—to ensure cohesive execution of the gallery's program

Qualifications

  • BA in Art History or related field; advanced degree a plus
  • 8-10 years of gallery sales experience, with a demonstrated track record of client development, sales, and art fair management
  • Existing relationships with collectors, advisors, and/or institutional contacts relevant to the gallery's program
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; polished and confident in client-facing settings
