Description
Upsilon Gallery is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Gallery Intern to join our team in New York on Fridays and Saturdays during opening hours. The ideal candidate is enrolled in a fine arts-focused university program and intent on working in the gallery industry. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in contemporary art gallery with multiple locations specializing in international postwar and contemporary art.
About Upsilon Gallery
Upsilon Gallery, founded in 2016 in New York City by Marcelo Zimmler, specializes in international postwar and contemporary art, with a focus on rediscovering overlooked mid-career artists. We present diverse perspectives through exhibitions, publishing, and scholarship, offering a welcoming space for both new and seasoned collectors. Upsilon Gallery has two locations in New York and London, along with offices in Miami and New York.
Educational Value:
- You will be guided by and working closely with a gallery associate as well as have opportunities to work with the managing director, gaining valuable insights into the art gallery industry. This hands-on experience will provide you with a supportive environment where you can ask questions, seek advice, and contribute your ideas as you develop a deeper understanding of gallery operations.
- There will be opportunities to experience the behind the scenes operations of a gallery. This includes cataloging artworks, navigating key art market platforms, exploring both mid-career artists and historical figures, analyzing market trends, and developing essential communication skills within the industry. Additionally, you will be involved in exhibition preparations and other key aspects of gallery management, providing you with a well-rounded and immersive learning experience.
- As an intern at Upsilon Gallery, you will gain a strong foundation in the art gallery industry, equipping you with the essential skills and knowledge to pursue a full-time position or explore various career paths within the field. This internship will not only provide you with a comprehensive introduction to gallery operations but also offer valuable networking opportunities, allowing you to build meaningful connections and take the next steps in your professional journey.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with daily gallery operations such as general administrative, and research-based support with flexibility.
- Support during exhibitions, special events, fairs, and openings.
- Adding works to marketplace platforms including Art Logic, Artsy, Artnet, and ArtForum with pre-provided information.
- Assist with social media, marketing materials, answering phone calls, and greeting clients.
Qualifications:
- Passion for art and interest in gallery operations.
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Art History, Fine Arts, Art Business, or a related field.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Dropbox, familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite is a plus.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Internship Details:
- Location: 23 E 67th St, NY, NY, 10065
- Duration: 4 months on Fridays and Saturdays in the office (approximately 15 hours per week).
- Ideal starting date April 18, 2025
