Description
The Registrar is an exciting role, reporting to the Head Registrar in New York and the Director in Los Angeles. The Registrar's core responsibilities include recordkeeping, data management, shipping, exhibition planning, and gallery operations.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Maintain all inventory record management for the Los Angeles gallery, ensuring the accuracy of captions, notes, forms, and lists.
- Maintain all consignments are current and accurate and maintains incoming and outgoing client consignments and loans for the Los Angeles gallery.
- The registrar is in charge of all post-sale shipments for the LA gallery and must keep track of shipping reimbursements and liaise with the accountant.
- Coordinate shipments incoming and outgoing from Los Angeles, including securing multiple quotes, liaising with shippers directly, and arranging shipments and keep NY Head Registrar informed and updated as necessary.
- Define packing and installation needs and make recommendations while liaising between the directors, preparators, and shippers. Work with head preparator to accept and release artwork to shippers and clients, prepare outgoing work, and discharge paperwork.
- The Registrar will work closely with the head preparator to oversee the installation and de-installation logistics for Los Angeles Exhibitions, Los Angeles Art Fairs, and coordinate with gallery teams in New York and LA for all install dates and deadlines.
- Manage and keep track of inventory, and obtain artwork specifications for entry in Artlogic database. Ensure clear communication of artwork arrival dates.
- Coordinate with head prep for individual and installation photography, framing, and crating.
Qualifications
1. Minimum of two years of experience working in a registrar role.
2. Knowledge of various artwork media and fabrication materials and methods.
3. Knowledge of project management and contemporary art and art history.
4. Skills in the Adobe Creative Suite, Excel, and Artlogic.
The registrar position is full-time Mon-Fri (10:30am-6:00pm), with the flexibility to work installation and de-installation days.
Salary commensurate with experience.
