Head Art Handler / Preparator
Andrew Edlin Gallery – Full-Time Position
Location: New York, NY (Tribeca)
Schedule: Tuesday–Saturday, 10am–6pm, with additional hours for openings and events
Andrew Edlin Gallery is seeking a skilled and experienced Head Art Handler/Preparator to join our team as we transition to our new Tribeca location. Applicant to work out of gallery location and participate in numerous art fairs throughout the year, including travel to Miami. Prior museum/gallery experience required (4-5 years minimum).
Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Handling, packing, installing, and deinstalling artwork across a variety of venues, including the gallery, art fairs, artist studios, and private collections
- Assisting with artwork intake, condition reporting, and preparation for shipping
- Performing general gallery maintenance (patching, painting, lighting adjustments, maintaining a safe and well-organized storage & work space)
- Supporting registrarial tasks, including inventory management and data entry
- Ordering packing and installation materials
- Coordinating with framers and scheduling freelance art handlers as needed
- Assisting photographer with artwork staging and documentation
Qualifications:
- Minimum 4–5 years of art handling and preparation experience in a museum or gallery setting
- Proficiency in best practices for packing, transporting, and installing artworks across a range of media
- Basic carpentry skills and comfort with power tools
- Familiarity with modern and contemporary art and various media and materials
- Experience with framing techniques (mounting, hinging, etc.—not from scratch)
- Strong knowledge of handling fragile artworks and delicate surfaces
- Ability to safely lift and carry 50–70 lbs
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to drive a 10-ft box truck
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
