We are seeking a fabrication assistant with an interest in making handmade one-of-a-kind sculptural Lighting and Furniture pieces, preferably with a background in Industrial Design and/or Ceramics. Candidates with experience and knowledge to read technical drawings for fabrication are preferred, additional experience in ceramics, lighting assembly, metal finishing, or sculpture fabrication is helpful. This is a HANDS-ON fabrication position.
The position will begin as a part time role, minimum 3 days per week, with the potential to become a full-time position. The role is to assist with the fabrication and production of sculptural lighting and furniture works in a ceramics studio but is NOT traditional clay work or pottery. The work includes cutting and forming of steel wire mesh by hand, mixing large batches of clay slip and glaze, assisting with the loading and unloading of kilns, grinding and cleanup of fired ceramic works with handheld power tools, assembly of small and large lighting pieces, general cleanup of the studio and tool organization. Applicant needs to be self motivated and able to work independently. The studio is a large private space shared by 5 artists and staff. The expectation is a minimum 21-24hrs per week with flexibility in the schedule.
