Description

The SENIOR EDUCATION PROGRAM MANAGER designs and implements educational programs, including formal and informal experiences and learning guides and resources. The SENIOR EDUCATION PROGRAM MANAGER cultivates relationships between the Museum and audiences of all ages.


Responsibilities include developing and managing educational programs and interpretive materials. Through this work, the SENIOR EDUCATION PROGRAM MANAGER strategizes ways to engage new audiences and provide learning opportunities and a full program of educational amenities for the benefit of individuals and groups of all ages and abilities.


PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and manage a range of regularly scheduled exhibition- and audience-centered educational programs including workshops, classes, camps, performances, and tours offered at the Museum.
  • Support the presentation of the Museum’s annual Student Exhibition and related programs, including communicating with school art teachers, coordinating the receipt and return of student work, and collaborating with the Curatorial Department on all aspects of the installation. 
  • Work with external organizations, project partners, and Parrish education staff to deliver novel and inspiring educational activities, including school tours, teacher training, artists-in-residence, and Access Parrish programs. Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with partner organizations, such as schools, youth organizations, and community agencies to further educational collaborations.
  • Recruit, train, and manage teachers, assistants, and volunteers who lead and support the programs. Work closely with the Parrish part-time museum educators and docent corps to develop engaging and age-appropriate school and community experiences; assist with docent recruitment and training. Explore new initiatives in museum education through membership in professional bodies, attendance at conferences, and visits to peer museums. Oversee creation, revision, and dissemination of educational resources, including audio tours and interpretive gallery guides and worksheets.
  • Work with the Executive Director, part-time museum educator(s), and advisory committees to develop new program initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Visitor Services to maintain schedule and record keeping for all educational programs, including booking tours, class registration, correspondence with participants, recruiting docents, arranging docent coverage, and assigning educators. Maintain class lists, order and maintain inventory of supplies, and work with Facilities, Visitors Services, and Chief Registrar departments to coordinate all program requirements and schedules. Work closely with various Museum departments on implementation logistics, marketing, and public relations strategies.
  • Provide support with grant writing, reporting, and documentation. Together with the Executive Director and Deputy Director of Finance to co-develop and co-manage the annual budget for education programs. 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in art, education, or a related field. Master’s Degree in education, or a related field and program management and/or teaching experience are preferred. Background clearances are required.
  • 4 years of experience as educator in an art museum
  • Knowledge of modern and contemporary art, coupled with a commitment to arts education and an enthusiasm for working with living artists; proven ability to act as an advocate for the arts
  • Experience in management responsibility and coordination of staff in a museum or related institution known for its quality and excellence
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and operate strategically, work effectively with a diverse staff and stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to forge inclusive and mutually respectful, trusting, and effective relationships with supervisor and a diverse group of staff, community members, and stakeholders
  • Competence and desire to implement DEAI initiatives
  • Experience in co-developing, tracking, and reporting on budgets
  • Skill in overseeing the Museum’s learning and arts education
  • Emotionally mature, with a keen understanding and prioritization of institutional culture, capacity, and needs


Working Conditions: Work may be performed in an office environment, remotely, and in public program spaces including the Museum galleries, studio, and theater. Night or weekend work is periodically required. Scope of Authority: Must accept directions from Executive Director. Supervises and coordinates part-time museum educators, adjunct teachers, visiting artists, performers, program assistants, volunteers, and docents.


Interpersonal Communications: Needs to possess strong organizational and interpersonal skills. Individual needs to be approachable and responsible. Position must be able to work both independently and with a variety of staff, vendors as well as the general public. Position must have good communications skills and work well as part of a team. This position requires confidentiality, integrity, understanding, and high ethical standards.
