About the Department
Rockefeller Memorial Chapel is the ceremonial and spiritual center of the University of Chicago. With a capacity of 1,500 people, it is the largest performing arts venue on campus, producing a variety of concerts and events for the University and wider Chicago communities. The chapel partners with academic departments to present large-scale events, including visits of major speakers. The 150-capacity Bond Chapel is the site of ceremonial, spiritual, academic, and artistic events suited to a more intimate venue, managed by Rockefeller Chapel.
Job Summary
The Events and Weddings Associate is an integral member of the Rockefeller Chapel administrative staff, planning and managing a wide range of events within Rockefeller and Bond Chapels. The ideal candidate has a deep appreciation for the performing arts and for interreligious collaborations. Reporting to the Events Manager, the Events and Weddings Associate has the following responsibilities:
- Serves as lead for all weddings within Rockefeller and Bond Chapels - managing inquiries, event planning and execution.
- Works with Events Manager on planning and executing complex events, including convocations, concerts, memorials, and other events as assigned.
- Supervises and schedules the student events crew; directly manages crew members at assigned events.
- Executes day-to-day event logistics, and other moderately complex assignments with some guidance from others.
- Works to implement ideas for improvement as they are identified in addition to providing post-event feedback on turnout and vendor performance with direction from others.
- Hires vendors and caterers for assigned events, maintains chapel A/V equipment and supplies.
- Works with Chapel Administrator and Social Media Intern to advertise and promote events to the UChicago and greater Hyde Park communities.
- Performs other related work as needed.

Experience:
- Two to five years of event management experience (interacting with patrons and clients, creating detailed layouts and stage plots, liaising with vendors).
- Ability and temperament to work with a demanding client base and to cultivate lasting relationships with diverse constituencies.

- Applicants must demonstrate a high level of independence while also working well as part of a team. The position requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills, the temperament to work with a wide variety of stakeholders, and the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.

Working Conditions
- Applicants must be available to work late afternoons, evenings, and weekends.
- Applicants should be able to lift up to 25 pounds of furniture/equipment unaided, and to climb 271 steps up the carillon tower.
- Walking between buildings in inclement weather is also required, as is regularly taking stairs without access to an elevator.
