Laumont is a collaborative fine art digital printmaking studio. We produce large format exhibition prints and limited editions for artists, galleries, and museums using digital imaging tools and traditional printmaking sensibilities. We seek a dynamic team member to uphold our meticulous dedication to the craft of modern printmaking.
We seek a Studio Assistant who is articulate, smart and has a strong knowledge of fine art and art history.
Position Summary
The focus of the Studio Assistant is to assist a team of imagers and fellow studio assistants to complete digital pigment print projects that range in scale from single prints to large editions. Some of the duties include running, trimming and packing prints while keeping an eye on consistency and imperfections. Manual retouching the final print is not uncommon so some experience with painting or drawing is helpful. The assistant communicates with colleagues and clients in order to finalize print projects and fulfill shipments so a positive attitude and professional manner is very important.
Clear, concise and professional communication between colleagues and clients is critical. Must have excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritize and multitask a variety of duties, working independently towards deadlines.
The ideal candidate has a dedication to craftsmanship and the ability and willingness to troubleshoot technical issues. Keen vision to see small inconsistencies and flaws in prints essential. Ideal candidate has worked with Photoshop in a studio environment. Previous experience working in a production environment or in a traditional art studio(printmaking, painting, photography) is a plus.
DIGITAL PRINTING EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE OF FINE ART PAPERS PREFERRED.
Job Responsibilities Include but are not limited to
-Maintain printers, paper inventory and cleanliness of studio.
-Hand trim or deckle and QC prints which may include manual retouching.
-Pack prints for domestic, international and local shipments and storage.
-Guide new clients through the various available processes and patiently answer client questions.
-Maintain cleanliness of the studio.
Ideal Candidate has the following Experience and Skills:
-Photoshop as well as other Adobe Creative Suite programs, Filemaker and Slack.
-Ability to work steadily and complete projects essential.
-Must be able to think critically, listen actively, be attentive and willing to learn.
-Ability to work both independently and in a team setting.
-Excellent interpersonal communication and writing skills.
-A sharp memory, be able to multitask effectively and follow through with assigned projects.
-Discretion and respect for client’s privacy.
