Description
The WPI seeks a motivated and collaborative researcher and data analyst to assist in the preparation of a French artist's catalogue raisonné project for online publication. Working closely with the project manager, the researcher will primarily focus on fact-checking exhibition histories and bibliographies, and will also assist with digital publication preparations.
Candidates for this role must be fluent in French and have a Master's in Art History. The ideal candidate has a strong critical eye for editorial and historical accuracy, and has the ability to prioritize tasks, develop and communicate strategy, and take ownership of specific projects. This position will require working extensively on the WPI's database, and prior experience with relational databases is preferred. The researcher also provides assistance with ongoing database maintenance and cleanup projects.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Accurately catalogue artwork details, exhibition, and bibliographic citations in accordance with Chicago Manual of Style and WPI Style Guidelines
- Achieve competency with WPI’s cataloguing database
- Maintain consistent communication with Project Managers about progress and scheduling
- Assist Project Managers in other related duties as assigned, such as outreach to third-parties, research at NYC-area libraries, and administrative assistance for catalogue raisonné production.
- In-person attendance required 3 days per week at the WPI’s NYC office.
Qualifications:
- Fluency in French (written and spoken)
- Minimum requirement of a Masters in Art History
- High level of proficiency with relational databases and enthusiasm for digital projects
- Excellent editorial, organizational, and communication skills
- Extensive research experience in libraries and archives
- Professional demeanor in communicating with museums, galleries, and auction houses
- Experience cataloguing fine art
- Capacity to execute tasks with accuracy, consistency, and meticulous attention to detail
- Collaborative spirit and flexibility with regard to pivoting to the needs of the project as it progresses
- Ability to organize and prioritize workload, to execute multiple tasks with time constraints, and to work independently
- Prior experience working on catalogues raisonnés desirable
