Description
Lévy Gorvy Dayan is seeking a Research Associate to perform art historical and archival research for gallery consignments. Reporting to the Senior Director, Global Research, the primary duties include cataloguing (provenance, exhibition, and literature history); object research; and assisting with exhibitions research. In addition, the Research Associate will respond to research-based questions from the sales team.
Responsibilities:
- Research and fact-check provenance, exhibition, and literature history for artworks
- Create factsheets according to the gallery’s style guide for consignments, exhibitions, and art fairs
- Collect and organize research relevant to artworks, including scans from catalogues raisonné and monographs
- Obtain archival images and installation views
- Confirm artwork details, captions, and signature lines
- Compile and format museum comparables
- Perform object scarcity research based on series, year, scale, and create illustrated lists
- Perform object and collections research to identify artworks for exhibitions and private sale
- Research, update, and maintain artist CVs and narrative biographies
- Maintain and update the gallery’s library using online library management system
- Organize and manage applications for artwork expertise
- Fact-check, edit, and format research and texts from third parties
- Write concise art historical texts with commercial awareness
- Update and standardize cataloguing and research content on the gallery’s server and database
- Supervise interns as needed

Experience:
- At least 2 years of professional experience researching and cataloguing artworks; experience with Impressionist and Modern artworks preferred
- At least 2–3 years of professional full-time work experience in a gallery, auction house, or museum
- At least 1 year of professional experience using the Artnet Price Database
- Minimum of a BA in Art History
- Proficiency using Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Acrobat and InDesign preferred
