Salary based on experience, the expected range is $60,000 - $80,000. Benefits include health insurance, paid time off, access to a 401k plan, and performance-based bonuses.
Susan Sheehan Gallery seeks an experienced Registrar and Inventory Manager for an established gallery dealing primarily in post-war American fine art original prints. The ideal candidate will possess a BA or higher preferably in art history or collections management and have experience in a registrarial or arts administrative position. Superior organizational skills and the ability to prioritize, the capacity to carefully manage projects and meet deadlines, and a knowledge of cataloguing, condition reporting, databases, online art platforms, and fine art shipping are required. Precise attention to detail and effective communication skills are necessary to the position.
Duties of this role include but are not limited to:
• Arrange domestic and international shipments, track all shipments, and follow up with clients and shipping companies
• Set deadlines and organize artwork preparation and shipping for art fairs and exhibitions
• Oversee and coordinate artwork conservation, framing, and photography
• Work closely with our operations manager to properly catalogue, store, and pack artworks
• Update all inventory records in the database system
• Maintain detailed records for shipping, receiving, and consignments including condition reports
• Compile, process, and manage records of all associated shipping paperwork
• Conduct annual inventory count
• Various administrative tasks and research projects as needed
Requirements:
• BA or higher (art history or related field preferred)
• Minimum of two years in a registrar position at a gallery, museum, or reputable auction house.
• Experience with domestic and international fine art shipping and logistics
• Knowledge of registrarial best practices and procedures, fine art handling and packing, condition reporting/conservation, and framing
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential, to ensure professional and efficient interaction with colleagues, clients, and vendors.
• Mac and Google Workspace proficiency (Word and Excel); Adobe Creative Suite knowledge; experience with CMS database systems; Sketch Up skills desirable
• Familiarity with online art platforms and contracts, including consignment agreements
• Ability to take initiative and to take responsibility for completing independent day to day tasks and help with moving projects forward
• Must be extremely detail-oriented, prioritize, and able to work on multiple projects at once
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines within a small team
• Experience with prints a plus
The position is full time. The gallery is open Monday-Friday, 10am to 6pm, with additional hours needed during art fairs occurring approximately four times a year.
