Application Deadline : 06/08/2026
Description

Tyler Mitchell is a New York-based photographic artist whose work spans exhibitions, books, editorial & commercial projects, institutional commissions, and film/video. The studio is seeking a Studio Archivist.

We are looking for a meticulous, self-motivated Studio Archivist to take ownership of the studio's physical and digital archive. This is a hands-on role at the heart of the studio. You are the steward of a growing body of work. Negatives, prints, publications, and the complete digital record of every artwork and project that is produced.

The right person finds real satisfaction in order, structure, and detail. They handle delicate materials with care and discretion, and are as comfortable with a Synology server as with an archival print or negative box. You will keep the archive accurate and easy to search so that nothing is lost, everything is findable, and the archive remains a living, well-tended system that supports the long term legacy of the project.

Responsibilities include

  • Own the organization, upkeep, and ongoing optimization of the entire studio archive, both physical and digital
  • Handle, organize, and log negatives, prints, publications, printed matter, and other physical materials related to artist's practice. Following sound archival handling and storage practices.
  • Digitally archive, organize, and log all files across the studio server and hard-drive systems, maintaining consistent file-naming conventions and folder structures, and proactively suggesting ways to improve the systems already in place.
  • Keep artwork inventory and cataloguing in ArtLogic accurate, comprehensive, and current. Including editions, dimensions, provenance, locations and more.
  • Monitor backup integrity and storage health and know how to flag risks before they become problems.
  • Maintain and expand our keyworded, well organized, studio reference library in Eagle software.
  • Flatbed scan prints, and handle ingesting of files across all projects.
  • Liaise as needed with artist's gallery, publishers, printers, framers, agents, and outside partners related to the archive.

We're looking for

  • Exceptional attention to detail and a genuine affinity for organization, order and methodical work
  • Background in archives, library or information science, collections management, art history, photography, or a related field with equivalent hands on experience, etc.
  • Self-directed and reliable, able to manage your own time and work independently
  • Discreet and trustworthy with sensitive work and confidential projects
  • A real passion for photography and contemporary art
