Description: 

The Associate Provost for Admissions provides leadership and management for the College Division admissions team, overseeing the development and implementation of a data-driven recruitment strategy that supports Juilliard's new student enrollment goals. The Associate Provost for Admissions will work collaboratively with key stakeholders across the school to recruit talented applicants in music, dance, and drama from around the world and usher potential students through the application, audition, and enrollment process. This position will play a key role in helping the school transition to a tuition-free model, making the Juilliard education financially accessible to the next generation of performers, educators, creators, and leaders.

The salary for this role is $140,000-$150,000 per year.

Role Responsibilities:

  • In collaboration with faculty, Deans and Directors, and other senior leadership, develop, implement, and oversee College Division recruitment and admissions processes in order to meet enrollment goals and standards. 
  • Create a domestic and international recruitment strategy to identify talent wherever it exists, with the aim of enrolling students from all around the world who have the ability and potential to thrive at Juilliard.
  • Lead and manage admissions staff to ensure effective engagement with potential applicants throughout the recruitment and application/audition process, using established best practices and developing new and streamlined practices.
  • Design and participate in recruitment events both on and off campus, including audition week events, campus visits and tours, visits to known feeder programs/schools, and other recruitment activities. This position requires significant travel, which may include international travel.
  • Manage the school’s compliance with federal and state laws, regulations and guidelines, and external reporting requirements in the areas of responsibility.
  • Collaborate with other student-facing administrative departments, including divisional staff, financial aid, Registrar, Student Development, and finance offices, to ensure a seamless enrollment and transition experience for new students.
  • Work in close partnership with Communications and Marketing to develop and manage the delivery of admissions-related promotional material, oversee all electronic communications and social media, and manage all admissions-related content on the website.
  • Chair the Admissions Committee and participate in the strategic awarding of scholarships as a core member of the Scholarship Committee.
  • Serve as a liaison and advisor for other areas of the school that have admissions functions, including the Tianjin Juilliard School, the Preparatory and Extension Divisions, and Juilliard Summer programs.
  • In collaboration with Alumni Affairs Office, cultivate alumni engagement in recruitment efforts by building and maintaining relationships with alumni who teach, and by developing a robust alumni referral network to identify and encourage talented prospective students.
  • Research, prepare, analyze and distribute institutional data reports for the senior administration and the faculty regarding admissions activity, enrollment projections, and market trends. 
  • Encourage a culture on the admissions team of ongoing training and professional development and ensure exceptional service and responsiveness to all constituents.
  • Maintain working knowledge of enrollment/integrated student administrative information systems and related technologies. Work with IT to ensure the timely import of application data into the school’s data management system.
  • Manage admissions budget and financial reporting tools, including working with the Finance Department on annual budgeting and enrollment forecasting.
  • Participate in national consortiums and conferences that represent arts admissions; maintain awareness of national college admissions and financial aid guidelines, ethics and practices.

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field
  • Five to seven years of admissions experience (three of which should be in a managerial position), preferably in a performing arts institution
  • Performing arts background required
  • Thorough knowledge of, or a background in, classical music preferred
  • Broad understanding of issues and best practices in higher education, particularly as they relate to music and/or the performing arts
  • Excellent organizational skills, a collaborative management style, innovative thinking, technological vision, and a strong service orientation
  • Proven record of ability to supervise and develop a professional staff and work successfully with faculty and administration
  • Excellent analytical, oral, and written communication skills
  • Strong understanding of current and emerging marketing and communications tools appropriate to prospective undergraduate and graduate students and parents. Conversant in all social media platforms applicable to student recruitment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current technology in application management/CRM and student information systems, and strong competency in Microsoft Office PC applications
  • Ability to travel frequently and represent Juilliard at conferences, feeder schools, and other events

Preferred Background:

  • Knowledge of financial aid regulations and trends preferred
