Studio Assistant - metal work

Description

Contemporary sculptor seeking a part time assistant available 3 days a week (ideally Monday/Wednesday/Friday). Responsibilities will include assistance in fabrication and surface finishing of sculptures as well as general studio tasks and maintenance. Must be competent with metal tools, as well as knowledgeable of general shop safety protocols and best practices. Past professional experience is preferred but will consider recent graduates and entry level candidates who demonstrate ability via work samples and/or portfolio. The right candidate will be detail oriented, communicative, and self-sufficient.

 

Applicants MUST have experience:

-tig welding steel/stainless

-incremental sanding/metal finishing

-using an angle grinder

 

The below skills are a plus but not a requirement:

+using a Foredom/pneumatic tool for detailed finishing work

+metal polishing

+familiarity with a Hossfeld bender

+mold-making (2-3 part rubber/mother molds)

 

This position is 3 days a week, availability needed starting mid July on a long term basis. Work samples are required.

 

Hourly pay commensurate with experience.
