Studio Assistant — Shop Cleanup & Basic Framing
East Williamsburg, Brooklyn · Part-Time Contractor · One day/week (6 hours)
About the Role
A working contemporary art studio in East Williamsburg is looking for a reliable, hands-on assistant to help keep the shop running one day a week. This is primarily a cleanup and upkeep role, with some strainer building, framing and prep work mixed in. If you're tidy, dependable, and good with your hands, this is a steady weekly slot in an active studio — wood shop safety and experience required.
Responsibilities
— Clean and maintain the studio and wood shop
— Sweeping, dust management, organizing tools and materials, and keeping surfaces and walkways clear and safe
— Wrap and pack finished artworks for delivery, handling work carefully
— Stretch canvas over stretcher bars to a clean, even tension
— Assemble simple float frames from scratch in the woodshop following clear direction
— Help keep materials stocked and the space ready for the week ahead
What We're Looking For
— Reliable and punctual
— This is a recurring weekly commitment the studio plans around
— Tidy and detail-oriented, with respect for tools, materials, and finished artwork
— Comfortable doing physical work: lifting, moving, and handling panels and materials
— Basic comfort with hand tools
— Self-directed and efficient
Nice to Have
— Any prior experience with art handling, framing, canvas stretching, or general shop/studio work
— Comfort in a studio/woodshop environment
