Before COVID-19, job interviews took place mostly in person, minimizing the risk of distractions. But now that this very delicate and stressful part of job hunting has moved online, how can we make sure to give our full, undivided attention to interviewers? Unfortunately, while you can’t do much about your physical surroundings aside from closing the door and hoping that no one interrupts you, you can (and should) block all disturbances that might come from your screen. Before an important meeting, make sure to block all phone calls, pop-ups, text messages, and other notifications. Set all your electronic devices to “Do Not Disturb” mode and only leave the apps or browsers you might need for your interview open. Get into the interview mindset by taking a few minutes before the appointment to take deep breaths, clear your head, and focus on the task at hand.
