Virtual Cohorts - hosted via Zoom for artists based across the world

In-person Cohorts - hosted at The Canopy Studio in Chelsea (NYC) for artists living in the New York City area.

Artists will meet regularly throughout the program’s year for critiques, discussion and resource building in professional practices and art history lectures. Each Cohort will receive the opportunity to engage in special workshops, lectures and critique with Guest Speakers, Visiting Artists + Critics. Each Cohort will culminate in a pop-up group show with an opening reception at The Canopy Studio in Chelsea (NYC) at the end of the program! There are also additional opportunities for artists to also have additional small group mentorship with visiting critics, Angela Conat, Loren Erdrich and more.

How to apply
  • Artists may apply to 3 Cohorts via one application; you will be able to rank your top choices. If accepted, you will be accepted into only one Cohort.
  • The program is geared towards artists post school (post under-grad) and regularly has artists enrolled that have completed their MFA or are current college professors.
  • The age range of the program spans 30-75 years old and the mentorship is focused on having artists continue their studio practice and research but with more accountability, opportunities, feedback, community and ways to improve one's studio.

  • A website link or Google Slides portfolio showcasing at least 15-20 artwork images (completed artworks or installation views). Please note: Instagram is not a tool for us to review your work.
  • Two brief statements of intent explaining your decision to apply to The Canopy Program and sharing more about your choice(s) of Faculty Mentor(s).
  • There are two scholarship opportunities available: The James Bernard Haggarty Scholarship of Service and Commitment and The Lumin Wakoa Scholarship for Artist Parents. See our website for details.
