Call for Art, Open Air 2025 at the University of Connecticut

The Alexey von Schlippe Gallery at the University of Connecticut Avery Point (AVS Gallery) seeks proposals for sculpture/installations, video works/projections, or light-based works for Open Air 2025. The works will be exhibited on the grounds of the University of Connecticut Avery Point campus from June 5 -October 6, 2025, with an opening reception for the public on June 5. Our goal is to assemble a dynamic set of artworks—some visible by day, some after nightfall. Themes for proposals may include, but need not be limited to, marine life, maritime history and culture, the ecology and environment of Long Island Sound, and responses to our campus architecture and dramatic shoreline. Parameters:

-Artists must install and deinstall their artwork, using their own tools or materials. A modest budget for installation will be provided by AVS Gallery.

-Works must be designed to withstand (or respond to) the windy conditions of the shoreline campus.

-The campus is open to the public and the University of Connecticut is not responsible for the alteration, loss, or damage of installed artworks.

-After deinstallation artists are expected to leave their site in the condition in which it was found.

How to Apply

In a single PDF (titled OpenAir25_firstname-lastname) please submit:

- a description of the work(s) proposed for Open Air 25 (maximum 2 pages)

- CV with artist address, telephone, and email

- artist statement (maximum 1 page)

- photograph, designs or other renderings of the work, links to video/audio files if applicable

- installation requirements and budget

- website (optional)
