We seek creative, thought-provoking visual interpretations of the Strother School of Radical Attention’s (SoRA) core mission of Attention Activism: the movement to push back against the commodification of human attention by coercive digital technologies.
You may choose to incorporate key concepts of SoRA’s mission including, but not limited to “attention activism,” “attention fracking,” “human attention,” “human flourishing,” and “sanctuaries of attention.”
We invite creators of all definitions, regardless of academic or professional background.
You can apply as an individual artist or an artist group. Each group will be considered single awardee in the distribution of the $500 cash prize. Winning submissions will be featured in a gallery exhibition on the history of poster art in movement politics, to be held at the Strother School's Sanctuary Gallery in DUMBO.
DESIGN GUIDELINES ● The submission must be your original work. ● Medium: Works must be reproducible media, such as but not limited to: lithographs, woodcuts, etching, linocuts, screenprint, or digital print. ● Size: Please submit in 3:4 ratio - 18 x 24 inches, 36 x 48 inches, and so on - and specify the final size of your work as it will be included in the exhibition. We also encourage you to attend our programs such as Attention Labs, seminars, and Sidewalk Studies. Calendar of upcoming events can be found here. SUBMISSION GUIDELINES ● Please use this Google Form to submit your application. ● Depending on your medium, please submit either a photographed image (if physical medium) or the original file (if digital medium) of your design in JPEG, PNG, or PDF. ● For digital designs, files must be 150-300 dpi. ● Please also submit a short description of your poster's production method. We require our winners to deliver their printed poster to our DUMBO gallery for installation in our exhibition by July 13th.
