FLO-BERT is dedicated to preserving, supporting, showcasing and educating the public about the great American Art Form, Tap Dance. Annually, we present "Tap Ex", a production which features today's great tap dancers and their choreography / improvography, and honors those who have contributed to the life, preservation and expansion of Tap Dance. This year's show, "TapEx 2020" will be held at The High School of Art & Design on Saturday, June 6, 2020. We are thrilled to announce this year's Honorees: The Stellar Tap Artist Ayodele Casel, who recently presented her own show with Arturo O'Farrell's Latin Jazz Band at The Joyce Theater. Our other Honoree for "TapEx 2020" is the talented Tap Dancer and Actor DeWitt Fleming, Jr. DeWitt recently portrayed Jelly Roll Morton in a Washington DC Production of "Jelly's Last Jam". We’re so thrilled to be honoring you at “TapEx 2020"
“I want to create more experiences of joy for myself — it’s all that I’m craving right now,” the tap dancer Ayodele Casel recently told Gia Kourlas, The Times dance critic.
Casel’s collaboration with the composer Arturo O’Farrill at the Joyce this year earned her that. The performance was a spectacular display of technique and heart, skill and spirit, Kourlas wrote. And there was history too, as Casel paid homage to the female tap dancers who came before her.
