The Arts Career Mentorship Program will support emerging arts professionals during the first year of their professional careers by pairing them with an Arts Mentor who they will meet on a monthly basis to discuss challenges, successes, and pivotal issues throughout the year. Mentees will also be required to attend six workshop-style panels that will tackle key topics and development strategies.

YPA NYC is founded and led by New York-based art administrators, Mara Vlatkovic and Jacque Donaldson. The volunteer-run group aims to expand by building a mentorship program to nurture the success of emerging careers during an often overlooked time.

Since 2015 YPA NYC has delivered professional development tools to the arts community through three distinct areas that promote in-person mentorship and personal growth:

  1. Professional Development Workshop Series - crucial topics are discussed with leaders in the field offering intimate support and guidance. Past sessions include, Art & Worth: Establishing Pay Equity in the Arts; ELNYA/YPA Women in the Arts Mentorship Workshop: Negotiation and It’s All About the Pitch. Open to the public.

  2. Social and experience-oriented events - provide arts administrators the opportunity to meet each other, network, and discover the city’s arts organizations. In the past, event hosts included Sing For Hope PianosCenter for Creative PerformanceArtsyPulse Contemporary Art Fair, and Jazz At Lincoln Center. Free.

  3. YPA Blog & Weekly Newsletter - feature articles, events, and opportunities for arts professionals prioritizing professional development, social and cultural issues, and resources within the field.

About the Program

The Arts Career Mentorship Program will invite the participants to engage in our resources outlined above as well as build on this foundation through an intimate guided exchange. We will pair 15 emerging art professionals with 15 leaders in the field providing needed support through catered professional development workshops, networking mixers, and facilitating productive monthly check-ins with their one-on-one mentor.
