The Dumpster Project
Hello. My name is Mac Premo. Here's the the breakdown of The Dumpster Project:
1. I have archived much of my life through collected objects.
2. I am moving to a smaller studio, making it necessary that I get rid of a lot of these objects.
3. I will do so by using them as the raw material for one enormous collage you can literally walk inside of, created inside a 30-yard dumpster.
4. Oh, before I build that thing, I am going to catalogue around 500 of these objects by photographing them and recording a few words about each one's history.
I have started cataloguing everything already. Have a look:
OK, so this is where I need your help. I need to raise the money to make this happen. A few of the things I need to pay for are: an actual dumpster and all the associated permits; the materials and assistance needed to create the art; the funds to document this whole process professionally... I want to create a website where the viewer has the ability to organize the catalogued objects via an extensive filter system. I am also going to document and edit this whole project on video, so I'll need to fund the shooting and the editing.
I have been fiscally sponsored by the New York Foundation for the Arts for this project. What that means is that every dollar donated to this project is tax deductible. You give me $50, you get a $50 tax write off. Add as many zeroes as you like.
What this also means is that this project has been vetted. NYFA fiscal sponsorship is granted upon review of a full budget breakdown, project narrative, letters of recommendation and work samples.
Speaking of work samples, here are some sites where you can see my work:
So there it is. I am shooting for $10,000 here. I am working with an art gallery and a fundraising partner to raise additional funds. I know it sounds like a lot to put stuff in a dumpster, but there are a lot of moving parts, and I have plans for this thing. The dumpster as an exhibit will premier with the Atlantic Avenue Artwalk in Brooklyn, and end up on Governor's Island Art Fair this fall. In between, it is my goal for the dumpster to travel to several spots in New York City, a mobile exhibition.
Thanks for taking the time to consider The Dumpster Project. I guarantee that it will happen. With your assistance, it can happen better.
