Summer’s at its peak, and we’re excited to celebrate the success and accomplishments of so many NYFA affiliated artists this August! caribBEING (Sponsored Organization)
Mobile art center caribBEING House will participate in Brooklyn Museum’s Target First Saturdays as part of their monthlong residency at the museum. Share your stories of #MYCaribbeanHeritage and see a very special exhibition featuring rare photos of Jean-Michel Basquiat.

Aeilushi Mistry (Fellow in Folk/Traditional Arts ‘15)
The public is invited to join in the Aarti Hindu Lamp Ceremony, where participants can decorate palm leaf lamps and launch them in the East River. There will be a traditional percussion ensemble and a guest performing artist at the event.

Debi Cornwall (Sponsored Project)
Cornwall’s photographs from Welcome to Camp America will be a part of this year’s Aperture Summer Open, On Freedom.

Mary Mattingly (Sponsored Project)
Mattingly’s Swale, a free public floating food forest, will be at Concrete Plant Park through August 31, 2017. Swale offers educational programming and welcomes visitors to harvest herbs, fruits, and vegetables for free.

Martha Burgess (Fellow in Computer Arts ‘99)
Trestle Gallery is pleased to announce Queer as a Clockwork PeachFish, a solo exhibition by Burgess, featuring an installation of sculptural objects and two distinct editions of photographs.

Mattia Casalegno (Finalist in Digital/Electronic Arts ‘17)
Casalegno’s work is featured in group show The Soothing Center, curated as an alternative spa featuring interactive artworks aimed at combating the daily bombardment of negative stimulation embedded in our material and media cultures.

14 Sculptors Gallery joins the Rockaway art scene with their new exhibition, 14 Sculptures on the Rock.

Jessica Stockholder (Fellow in Painting ‘89)
99 Cents or Less is a group exhibition of 99 artists based in the United States, centered around Detroit’s ongoing economic crisis, and highlighting how artists address the changes and evolution of mass production and consumer relations.

Andrea Arroyo (Fellow in Sculpture ‘89, Printmaking/Drawing/Artists’ Books ‘95)
Unnatural Election: Artists Speak, is a show curated by Arroyo, featuring her work alongside over 200 international artists dealing with questions of social justice, diversity, human rights, economic justice, climate change, and international affairs.

Kathleen Foster (Sponsored Project)
PROFILED, a documentary film about racial profiling and police brutality, will be screened at the American Psychological Association Film Festival in Washington, DC.

Yukiyo Kawano (Sponsored Project)
Suspended Moment, a sculpture installation, captures the human implications of nuclear technology. Accompanied by a Butoh performance by Meshi Chavez, soundscape by Lisa DeGrace, video projects by Stephen A. Miller, and poetry performance by Allison Cobb and Kawano.

Andres Serrano (Fellow in Photography ‘87)
Revealing Reality is the first large Dutch exhibition of Serrano’s work in 20 years, showcasing photographs drawn from his early photograph series. Serrano’s book Salvation (Hatje Cantz, 2016) is a fiscally sponsored project.

Dulce Pinzón (Fellow in Photography ‘06)
El Museo Amparo presents Generosity, an activist project in which Pinzón encourages her viewers to consider the environmental impact of their habits.

Maya Healers: A Thousand Dreams is a compelling collection of photographs and writing by Antmann. The book explores the power and mystery of indigenous healing practices among the Maya people of Guatemala, and is published by Nirala Press.

Girl on Girl is a feature-length documentary that follows the stories of feminine lesbians who, even after coming out, feel invisible and stigmatized. A staff pick on Vimeo, this film delves into the stories and experiences of a diverse cast.

Patricia Horvath (Fellow in Nonfiction ‘07/Fiction ‘15)
Published by Etruscan Press, Horvath’s memoir All the Difference is a captivating account of the author’s transformation from a visibly disabled young woman to someone who could abruptly “pass” for able-bodied, and considers the literature of physical transformation and how folk and fairy tales shape our attitudes towards the disabled.

The NYSCA/NYFA Artist Fellowship Program awards $7,000 grants to individual artists living and working in New York State, and NYFA’s Fiscal Sponsorship program enhances the fundraising capabilities of individual artists and emerging arts organizations.
