Artists News: February, where have you gone?

February has gone by pretty quickly but we’ve still been able to squeeze in quite a few trips to museums, galleries and performances. 

For this upcoming weekend and the first week in March we are getting excited to see many NYFA affiliated artists in prestigious group exhibitions, impressive solo shows and interesting performance installations.

Pooh Kaye (Fellow in Choreography ‘86)
Is featured in the Independent Spirit group exhibition at SUNY Oneonta. 24 regional artists show a diversity of styles and approaches to making art in the college’s Martin-Mullen Art Gallery.

Lisa Corinne Davis (Fellow in Printmaking ‘97, Painting ‘00)

Emily Hass (Fellow in Painting ‘12)
Is featured in Passing Through, a group exhibition of artists who used threads in their works.

Will perform image searches at Firewall.

Wendell Castle (Fellow in Crafts ’86)
Is showing his works in Wendell Castle Remastered at the Museum of Arts and Design. This Thursday museum educators will host a guided viewing experience.

Angelina Gualdoni (Fellow in Painting ’08, ’15)
Has a solo exhibition, Folds and Fields, at Asya Geisberg Gallery. The opening reception will be on Thursday evening from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

Carl Hancock-Rux (Fellow in Playwriting/Screenwriting ’02)
Will be part of Two Souls, Two Thoughts: The Art Of African American History, an event with conversations and lectures at the Park Avenue Armory to celebrate Black History Month.

Andrea Lerner and Rosane Chamecki (Fellows in Video/Film ’15)
The two fellows are presenting the video installation Eskasizer under the collaborative name chameckilerner. The opening reception and viewing sessions will be on Friday February 26 at the Boiler.

China Marks (Fellow in Printmaking/Drawing/Artists’ Books ’05, ’11)
Has a solo exhibition Not Quite Human coming up at Owen James Gallery. Come to the opening reception this Saturday, February 27 at 6:00 PM.

Neil Greenberg (Fellow in Choreography ‘90, ‘96) and Arturo Vidich (Fellow in Choreography ’13)
Is participating in Danspace Project Platform by Eiko Otake (Fellow in Choreography ’96). Over the course of three weeks artists are performing solos based on quotes by philosopher Judith Butler about grief and mourning at various places in the East Village and the St. Mark’s Church.

Molly Peacock (Fellow in Poetry ’85, ’89)

Tennessee Dixon (Fellow in Computer Arts ‘97)
Has contributed to Grounded, a performance piece directed by Laley Lippard. Grounded will be on view for three weeks at the Virginia Stage Company at the Wells Theater.

Barbara Smith (Fellow in Sculpture ’11), Sonya Blesofsky (Finalist in Architecture/Environmental Structures ’13), Glendalys Medina (Fellow in Interdisciplinary Work ’12) and Peer Bode (Fellow in Video ’86, ’02), Charlotte Becket (Fellow in Craft/Sculpture ’14) and Katie Torn (Finalist in Digital/Electronic Arts ’14
Are showing their works in the Spring / Break Art Show, a curator-driven art fair during Armory Arts Week at Skylight at Moynihan Station.

Judith Sloan (Fellow in Music ‘13)
