“Distribution is Easy, Marketing is Hard:” An Evening with Marketing Specialist Ira Deutchman

February 10, 2022 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

$15 – $20

Film marketing is about locating and reaching your audience, and then exciting and motivating them to buy a ticket, and no one is more qualified to talk about it than Ira Deutchman. Alongside a distinguished career distributing, marketing, and producing films with budgets from tens of thousands to tens of millions, Deutchman has taught “The Business of Film” at Columbia University for decades. On February 10, Deutschman will address one tiny part of that class, film marketing. During our online webinar, he will explain why “Distribution is easy, marketing is hard” is a remark his students hear regularly. Please click here for details and to register.

Deutchman’s recent and first film as director, “Searching for Mr. Rugoff” (2019), is a documentary about Donald Rugoff, the crazy genius behind Cinema 5, a mid-century theater chain and film distribution company. In The New York Times, Nicolas Rapold called it “an essential history of film culture.”
